#LSU mourns the loss of one of the game's all-time greats, as Hall of Famer Y.A. Tittle passed away Sunday night at the age of 90.

For LSU fans, he played before the year 2000. Just an FYI.

Legend.

Texas damn near had him, Bobby Layne and Doak Walker.

Can't remember if Tittle left UT after summer session or fall his freshman year? LSU needs to honor him with something big and great pride. The man was a football player.

Before 2000...like back when Tennessee was relevant in football?

Tittle was the first LSU legend. One tough son of a bitch.

People keep saying this. How do y'all keep forgetting Doc Fenton? Hero of the Bacardi Bowl.

LSU is lucky the statute of limitations has passed, LSU would be on probation for the recruitment of Tittle, LOL

We also tend to overlook Steve Van Buren who was an All America right before the Tittle era who played for the Philadelphia Eagles, won the rushing title 4X

In the 1943 Orange Bowl he scored all the points for LSU as they beat A&M

He too was one tough sumabitch....played both ways and was a standout DB ....9 interceptions in 8 years and 2500 return yards

They don't make tough SOB's like Tittle and Van Buren any more

Good article that talks about his LSU days.

LINK

Some good stuff in there about rooming with Layne, flipping to his true love LSU & faking the phone call to Dana X Bible to keep things good, balding in college and returning an INT with his pants falling off.

Somewhere recently I saw an amazing interview from a few years ago by an under the radar source that was genuine excellence & captured Tittle's greatness and one of the last connections of that era of early football.

I'll post if I can locate it

That could apply rant wide I think.

YA Tittle was as hard nosed a QB as they came. He would be really sad with this flag football the NFL has become.

I got to meet many old school Tigers through Red Swanson. Mr. Swanson was my dad's boss at one time.

One of the most iconic sport's picture in my lifetime. It was the last season of his career. He was 38.
