UK basketball generated less than Vandy football? It's no wonder football drives conference expansion.

All you know need to know about how much more football matters economically than basketball is the FOOTBALL is what destroyed the Big East. There is no conference in America that cares more singularly about basketball than the old Big East........and the reason it was destroyed was football.

Basically the equivalent of the SEC destroying our football because we just have to have good basketball.

Also, LOL at including "profit" in this. You know what profit is at a major NCAA sports program? Winning something. There is no such thing as "profit". So frickin stupid.

"Guys, I know I went 4-24, but I didn't use the jet to recruit or anything so we saved TONS of money! We are going to lead the league in profit margin!"

One of the issues I've seen just by looking at some of these reports, is that schools don't necessarily allocate revenue the same way. What may be considered basketball revenue at one school, isn't listed as basketball revenue at another.

Yea, it's all pretty stupid. Basically, just tell me ticket revenue numbers. And, shockingly, the breakdown in "revenue" pretty clearly correlates to attendance in 2012ish.

The 30 for 30 about this is one of my favorites in the series.

Yeah I feel sorry for fans of those teams. I know a school like Syracuse makes more money in the ACC, but as a fan, I would miss playing against Georgetown and having the tournament in MSG. Playing a team as far away as Duke can't generate the same feelings even though they are a premier basketball program.

I grew up in Tennessee as an Alabama fan. I can't imagine playing someone like Penn State every year instead of UT.

Since these are 2015 numbers, let's compare the 2015 numbers for football (they went up substantially in 2016 but we should compare apples to apples here):

2015 Total revenue for the 14 basketball teams was $161 million.

2015 Total revenue for the 14 football teams was $900 million.

So, yeah, that is why football controls what goes on for the SEC.

It's right up there with the SMU one for me. Those old Big East coaches are the best.

I really enjoyed that one also. Pony Excess is another one of my favorites which is sort of about the death of a conference too.

I know ours fans are in a constant state of turmoil but the OM program gets more than its money's worth out of basketball.

Then agree to play each other more often in the non conference slate. And with this being the sport of basketball, what would be the point of avoiding that at all if you can help it with the way the Selection Sunday people can treat teams with weak non conference slates?
