Probably not? Uh I don't think a high risk/high reward candidate is worth that at all. I think he'd be a good fit here but I don't want any coach who already has plans on leaving, especially when that coach is still in the high potential/risk but low on the resume category.

At any rate, the OM thing doesn't make sense. Why bother wasting his time and ours? It's not like flirting with us is going to get Tech to shell out a big payout while he waits on OM. And given his family background, one would think he wouldn't waste an AD's time for no other reason than to well waste time.

More likely the media doesn't know what the hell it's talking about and is just speculating to feed the click machine. Controversy and drama draw attention and Basilio is the one who has been doing the most of that while claiming he will reveal the full backstory tomorrow - be sure to check the blog/tune in!

Did Phil Jackson turn it down? That's surprising.

Yeah. If this is the hang up then y'all tell him to get bent. This is big boy leagues. You don't jump to big time basketball program for two years and then leave for your "dream job." You can do that, but you can't telegraph you're gonna in the contract.

I woke up this morning expecting White to be gone. Are they still negotiating or has UT moved on to the next guy?

UT reporter Jimmy Hyams on the radio in Nashville this morning is saying that White is asking in the neighborhood of $2 million but the real holdup is over the buyout $. In year 3 of the contract both White and UT want to protect themselves and neither is budging much, also some talk that UT wants White to pay his own buyout at La Tech.

UT's AD is essentially broke, their reserve funds were basically doubled by Martin's Cal buyout of $1.3 mil...

So their Dooley buyout may be saving White for us? We got the better end of that deal!

How are they broke? Real question. The other big 6 schools seem to have tons of cash.

That's what happens when you put out a shitty product on the football field and your former AD has no idea how to negotiate a realistic buyout with coaches.

I'll give Hart credit in that he isn't giving White an insane buyout like Hamilton gave Fulmer and Dooley (which is exactly what got us into this mess in the the first place)

Well for starters, we paid Fulmer and Dooley over $11m during a 4 year span to not coach here, basically.

Holy shite

How long did Phil have left on his deal, though?

4 years, I believe. Hamilton gave him an extension and increased his buyout when we made it to the SECCG in '07 then turned around and fired him less than a year later. You can't make this shite up

ETA- somehow, Dooley conned Hamilton's inept arse into giving him a $5m buyout when we were scrambling for a coach after Kiffin bolted. At least Fulmer had the rings and the record to command a hefty buyout. Dooley had a losing record at La Tech.

$2m. It's the same every year throughout his contract.

So what's going on? Why hasn't UT hired white yet?
