That is a pretty long drought - one that I don't think the other major conferences can touch. Will it end this season?

Yes. Florida had a chance in this game if Grier wasn't suspended, but he is. They will get destroyed.

And that team was fortunate to be in both of those games.

It's hard to believe Tennessee was the last team to repeat.
I know it's true but it doesn't feel right

Reminder
Alabama has been the only team that matters in the SEC since most of the worlds population was born

Well you're going to be there this year by virtue of a 30 yard over the head lateral on 4th and 25 in overtime so stfu.

I'm amazed that neither Bama nor Florida has done it since, given the caliber of teams they've had since the 90's. It's not a surprise that we did it in 97 & 98, we were pretty fricking good then.
People can say we were lucky to win in 98 because of the Stoernover, but name a SEC or National Champion that didn't have a lucky bounce or 2.

The two teams that popped into my mind were 1995 Florida and 2004 Auburn...and neither won a NC. AU was a victim of circumstance and UF ran into a Nebraska buzzsaw obviously.
But as I recall during the regular season, those teams each had one close game and dismantled everybody else.

True. I had completely forgotten about those teams, probably because they didn't win the NC. Auburn was decisively unlucky in 2004.

no, UF has zero shot vs bama. How can a team that needed miracles to stay within 7 of LSU be ready to take on bama.

2004 Auburn
Was that the year that Alabama spent most of the first half inside Auburn's red zone but couldn't score because we had to use our 2nd or 3rd string QB?
