Remember when TRant thought the hiring of Kevin Steele as DC was a bad hire by Saban ?

I do and here we are half way through the season and his D is only giving up 15ppg

That's okay, but not exceptional defense at this point in the season. Bama ranks 14th in points allowed per game. It's not a top 5 number... and that's where Bama was for much of their stretch of dominance.

He was damn good at Auburn, never thought he would be a bad hire. The OC is a different story though.

I’ve learned long ago that Saban almost always k owns what he’s doing so I never thought it was a bad hire.
Plus I thought Steele did a pretty good job at LSU among other places.

Steele is solid. I do think Pruitt is better, so can see why many Bama fans were wanting him.

Kirbys last 2 D's at Bammer gave up 18ppg and 13ppg

Can't do without them on defense. A competent OC can take a good QB and 2-3 other good players and pull off some shite with smoke and mirrors, hide bad players, etc.
You can't do that on defense. You can't hide or deemphasize your weaknesses. The offense chooses the point of attack and which players will be there. Big advantage.

I endorsed the hire because of 2019 LSU game alone. His career as Gus's sidekick was phenomenal.

UGA is 7-1 against Steele as a DC.
1-0 against Steele as a DC at Bama.
