I started to agree with you... but the more I think about it the more I think that's backwards

They should play Rammer Jammer at basketball games because any victory there is significant.

I think the Rammer Jammer cheer originated in the 1920s... which makes sense because Alabama football was just getting good then

Acting like you've been there before and expected to win isn't what the mentality probably was then because the south including Alabama was still suffering from (butthurt if you like) the after effects of the Civil War. They were looking for a reason to brag and wanted something to pin their self esteem to

Now today when Alabama does have a history of success (and at least as long as Saban is there) will contend tp win the SEC... the cheer seems out of place because it doesn't fit a fan-base that has been there before and knows how to win with grace

I can see that. However, I say don't run your mouth if you don't have anything to run it about. Neither Alabama or Auburn have a basketball history worth raising hell about.
