Crap man, these kids wait their whole lives to be in a game like this, and the refs almost foul out both frontcourts midway through the second half.

The entire tourny but especially the UNC games were horrendous, usually for their opponents. Terrible

Neither team could get a flow going because the damn refs kept stopping play. When you foul out a kid with 7 minutes left and 3 other players are playing with 4 and 2 are playing with 3, the refs have been too involved. Especially in a title game. Hell, let 'em play. UNC don't need any help.

There were a few bad calls but shite there were alot of fouls. What are they supposed to do let them maul each other out there? Stop fouling so much if you don't want to get so many foul calls. The refs were just doing their job, which is to enforce the rules of basketball. It's not nam, there are rules man.

As a ref this game was full of "tempo" calls. These are calls that are 50/50 and if you know the game of basketball you let them go so the teams can get into a flow. If you want to go by the "rules of the game" you can call a foul every play. The officiating in college basketball is flat horrible night in night out. When Teddy Valentine is considered good you know your group is really bad.

Well, the refs had to make sure UNC won, because the NCAA protects the ACC, even from admitted academic fraud.

Im ok with the refs calling fouls when there are fouls. If this was consistent, players would stop manhandling each other every play and wed actually have decent basketball. Unfortunately for players, the inconsistency of officials conveys mixed signals about how physical you can be game to game.

You can call holding on every play in football too, if you wanted to but it's not good for the game. Neither is all those foul calls. I don't have a dog in this fight, so I didn't care who won but the tight calling of the game last night was clearly detrimental to the game as a whole and certainly didn't help the team that relies on their big men to score. Everybody knew it was going to be a physical game last night but the officials. They decided to not let them play and it ruined the game. Not because of the outcome but because of the quality of play.

One way to stop the refs from taking over the game is to stop fouling. The refs could have called two dozen more fouls completely legitimately.
If you don't like it, blame Louisville and their trip to the championship game a few years ago with their maul ball style.

The problem is that the refs would call a foul because somebody got looked at funny one trip down the court then next time let someone get axe-murdered with no call. It's just dumb. And I'm so fed up with all of these "not a foul, but we're going to call it like it is because we suck at our jobs" fouls. There were 3 or 4 clean steals called as reach-ins to go with another few fouls called where guys are just out of control sprinting into the lane.

I didn't see many of these. I do agree there's inconsistency. But most of the fouls they called needed to be called, IMO.
