The talent pool there is only large enough to support one large program. I think it's fair to say that while Spurrier was in place both T-USC and Clemson were higher-end mediocre teams. Clemson has become elite in the absence of viable in-state competition.

Was Spurrier the only thing that made T-USC an attractive program to athletes in the state? Dark days ahead for Gamecock football it seems, I just don't see Boom cutting through and convincing kids that Clemson is the lesser option.

If Boom fails, it won't be because of recruiting. I can tell by your post that you haven't been following recruiting lately.

SEC marketing is about it.

And Columbia has more amenities.

The melt from the USC fans last was hilarious. They are so scared of Clemson

They should be scared, honestly.

Clemson just added serious hardware and USC's head coach is a pariah.

Clemson and South Carolina were both high end national level teams for a couple years when Spurrier was whooping up on Dabo every year. The pinnacle was in 2013 when South Carolina finished at #4 and Clemson finished at #8 in the AP Poll.

Muschamp's doing some decent recruiting all things considered.

But that national championship trophy is something Dabo can walk in any recruit's living room and say "Come to Clemson and you can win a national title."

Gamecocks are in a rebuild and they're selling hope. We'll see if he can get it turned around, but he's on the right path.

South Carolina and Clemson don't usually compete for the same players.

South Carolina is currently #15 in the recruiting rankings with about half the class coming from the state of South Carolina.

Clemson is currently #13 in the recruiting rankings with only 1 commit from the state of South Carolina.

Muschamp is fully committed to recruiting within a certain distance of South Carolina's campus. Of course, the staff will go after talent outside that radius but the focus will always be SC, GA, and NC.

Dabo seems to branch out much further for their talent.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is with that.

Dabo might be a Bama guy, but he's taken his recruiting lessons straight from Phillip Fulmer. Clemson is recruiting regionally and nationally now and doing it well. Watson is from Gainesville, GA and Clemson has a ton of kids from Florida and our border states.

Believe it or not, South Carolina still has a ton of support in most areas of SC. This helps us because a lot of our targets grow up Gamecock fans. And we need every in-state kid we can get, so Clemson winning a national title just makes it that much more difficult.

You guys still have the Rock Hill pipeline, and South Pointe is always loaded.

It's weird that we aren't in a lot of recruiting battles, but if y'all get back where you were ~2012, things could get interesting

And y'all have the Orangeburg County pipeline. I can't remember South Carolina ever having many good players from Orangeburg or Bamberg Counties.

2018 looks to be a strong year for in state talent, so I'm sure we'll see more head to head battles for players.

The corndogs last night showed their Bama envy. The whole 'if you can't beat them pull against them' was on full display. They took too much joy out of last night. More so than we did last year when clemson lost.

Really? Both teams were 10+ wins programs prior to Spurriers last year.

Most of the USC fanbase are good folks.

Only cockboi and CNB (when on his period) are worthy of the schadenfreude.
