Offering Gary money would have been a bad idea anyway. Too much risk for extremely slim chances of a reward. Kid was always going to go to Michigan. I remember Clemson getting all excited because they were riding high off of being nationally relevant for the first time in ages and didn't understand that there's more to recruiting than just being in recent headlines. Then they got pissed when Gary went where everyone knew Gary would go.
