Good list. We didn't start our softball program until 1997, but hopefully we can keep moving up the list..
OU's program is ridiculous.. I expect that lead to grow.

That's surprising Oklahoma is that far behind UCLA given their last 10 years alone. I don't follow softball very closely but i guess ucla went on a hell of a run at some point.

Bama huge disappointment the last few years

A lot of teams started in 1997.

Please, Arkansas fans beat their fricking chests over every single Olympic sport that they are decent at - I didn’t know a fanbase could get so much mileage out of cross country and indoor track championships.

Any time someone makes up an arbitrary points system, then proceeds to do math with it, an engineer dies inside.

Auburn’s program started the same year.
Those West Coast teams were basically able to dominate the sport with very little competition from any other geographic region up through the 1990s
From 1982-1999, UCLA made the WCWS 15 out of 18 seasons… Arizona and Fresno State each 12 times out of 18.
Cal State Fullerton made it 6 times. Long Beach State 5 times. Cal and Cal Poly Pamona each made it 4 times.
The only current SEC program that was competitive back in those days was Texas A&M who made it to the WCWS 5 times, the National Finals four times, and they won 2 National Titles….. all before the year 2000.

LSU could have been a few spots higher, but our coach is the master of winning 40 games, regional/super regional (no WCWS), no sec titles, and Torina being a very likable person.
LSU has a top 5 facility and pays her a top 5 salary.

Just for reference, the WCWS has only been held since 1982. That's 41 years. UCLA has won almost 1/3 of all the titles (12). Arizona is next (8) followed by Oklahoma (7).
1. UCLA - 12
2. Arizona - 8
3. Oklahoma - 7
4. Arizona State, Florida, Texas A&M - 2
7. Alabama, California, California-St. Fullerton, Florida State, Fresno State, Michigan, Washington - 1
That's all, folks.

It's hard to take a sport seriously when if a team is up by 5 runs or down by 5 runs the players will be in the dugouts acting like 11 year-olds at a slumber party.

You can't win with cheerleader type any more you need girls that are 6'2" 240 lbs and big heavy girls than can hir a ton.

True that. It is embarrassing.
Way better to have a bunch of dudes in the dugout standing there constantly spitting and scratching their nuts.

If you were to look at the final top 10 softball teams during the past 10 years, players from California would exceed any other state.
It must be huge out there. Good weather for it, year-round.

Great post, OP.
This is a sport where the SEC is going to leave every other conference in the dust. Besides adding OU and Texas, as noted, the Pac used to be the best conference, but now that conference has been blown apart and UCLA, Arizona and Washington are going to lose out on the best recruits. What great player wants to fly all the way across the country to play against Rutgers, Indiana, West Virginia, Cincinnati, etc.? The best softball players are all coming to the SEC from now on.

I know State is at the bottom but we have been pretty good over the recent years.
We are no longer an easy win for any team and we can beat just about anybody not named Oklahoma in the present day.
