The question is a good one, but I wonder the country breakdown of each school.

Many will be for countries other than the USA.

Aren't 90% of your Olympic athletes representing other countries?

I don't understand why our own website doesn't list Pat Summitt for coaching the 1984 Gold Medal Team. She was working here and we list other coaches and that was USA's first Olympic Gold in Women's basketball. I can understand why we don't claim her silver medal since she was at UT-Martin although since we are a system school unlike many although Bama is one too a case could be made but to not claim her Gold Medal for UT is crazy.

At any rate, I'm surprised we have this many since our track and field and summer sports have been weak the last few decades.

We don't do many Olympic sports like swimming diving and gymnastics and we have been pretty bad at track. Brittany Reese is going for back to back Olympic gold in the long jump though. And we have a good shot at the pole vault gold. ????

Baw, do you even Tayshawn, Unibrow and soon to be Demarcus. And did you even had the whole 48 basketball team with the coach?

So kindly sit the frick down.

Obviously, you're expecting AU's season to be a dumpster fire of epic proportions. There's no other reason to post this.

Oh sure, you'll say that it's because the Olympics start tonight, etc., etc., etc. TBH, I don't think that I've ever been less excited for an Olympic Games than I have this one.

But while you're at it (and since you do such a swell job of exposing the negative aspects of certain sports programs), keep us updated on the filthy venues in Rio, the corruption of the Olympic officials and Brazilian government employees, the bribing of judges, the failed drug tests, and the athletes that should be banned from competing for a myriad of reasons.

TIA.

I see Auburn going even higher once equestrian becomes an Olympic sport.

Fun fact: Florida and UT also have the most Gold Medals in the SEC. I understand UF - so much bigger than us population wise - but UT's achievement here is impressive.

OP those medals go up when ALL medals are included. For example, UF has a total of 108 and ranks 7 overall (tied with Harvard which without looking it up I assume comes from sports like fencing and other fairly expensive sports so I was def. wrong about fencing but they still compete best in elite sports that cost through the nose to hire a great coach) whereas UT is 2nd in the SEC and ranks 18th overall with 51. Both teams are surrounded by Ivy Leagues so again I'm assuming fencing and other expensive sports are really what's driving those numbers. (Just checked two - Harvard and Yale and it looks like Rowing, Hockey, and Swimming are their things).

For UT these were the top medal garners Women's basketball (no real surprise) but also men's swimming, men's t&f, women's t&f, and women's swimming are our big producers. Hopefully we get t&f back together (and Gatlin will help the medal count this year for sure) and women's rowing starts to pay dividends.

I also think it's a shame UT and UK don't even compete in Equestrian - TN is made for show and dressage for real and so is KY. Both could be great steeplechase type teams as well.

It's been an Olympic sport for ages.
