didn't bama have a string of some pretty good DL in the early 2000s? Dewberry or Gilberry was one I think. I remember heading into that 02 matchup they had a few big time DL that I was a bit concerned about.

It's crazy how things have changed, most of those guys probably wouldn't crack the 2 deep on the DL there now lol

Yep

2003 - Jarret Johnson (4th round) (506 tackles, 25.5 sacks, 11 NFL seasons)
2003 - Kenny King (5th round)
2003 - Kindal Moorehead (5th round) (121 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 6 NFL seasons)
2004 - Antwan Odom (2nd round) (131 tackles, 23.5 sacks, 7 NFL seasons)
2005 - Anthony Bryant (6th round)
2006 - Mark Anderson (5th round) (175 tackles, 36.5 sacks, 7 NFL seasons)
2008 - Wallace Gilbery (undrafted) (191 tackles, 34.0 sacks, 10th NFL season in 2017)

Johnson, Odom, Anderson and Gilberry all had really good NFL careers (Gilberry is still playing and Johnson just retired).

Farthest back I can remember an opposing basketball player.

Yeah, their DL was stacked. I have a Bama fan twin and we used to print the rosters, recruiting classes, etc, and compare when we were young. Truly fanhood at its purest as everything didn't seem to be negative.

I remember Bama had Gilberry, Kindal Moorehead, Jarret Johnson( I believe) among others.

Things were a lot more fun when you had to go to the effort to find stats and things in magazines and newspapers as a kid.

I forgot about Antwan Odom. He was a beast. LSU had a DL couple years ago that was very reminiscent to that team.

The DL/LB in this league (especially the Western teams) is just unreal year in and year out.

Times were simpler then and honestly, probably more enjoyable. I didn't really start getting on message boards until ~2000 but even then they were such in their infancy. When I was in middle school and even all the way through high school, I would go to Kroger damn near everyday starting early June and buy Athlon and Lindys and look at the rosters, check out our opponents, see the preseason rankings, etc. It was so fricking fun! Now we kinda take that kind of stuff for granted.

Yep yep yep yep yep

I still go buy an Athlon my first day at the beach in July and read through it, especially the unnamed coaches opinion part on every team. Not because I need to, I just like it.

Stuff like waking up and running downstairs to check the paper to see who won the Wed. night SEC basketball games the night before because there was no internet and the only ticker/scores you had were Sportscenter and it was luck of the draw there.

Oh yeah. We had paper dividers, protectors, and everything. Plus the basketball games were hardly ever on tv unless tournament time. Listening to Rod Bramblett on the radio when we had a decent team in Marquis, Kyle Davis, and others was fun. The nostalgia...

Yep - I remember how awesome I thought CSS was because they showed a bunch of the Alabama basketball games. Before, I literally never saw them play a game outside of a tournament or big OOC game until SEC play started and they were on Jeff-Pilot.

Exactly. I still get all the magazines for toilet time but it's not like before. There is just too much information and the access to it is just a click away. 24/7 365 days a week recruiting and having team beat writers are a blessing and a curse.
