How are you guys going through players so fast? Seems like Butch has signed 30-player classes every year he has been there.

Is he signing that many non-qualifiers, or is he processing kids out that regularly?

BTW - Not saying he is the only coach doing this or anything. I just pay attention to the SEC East teams a bit more than everyone else during recruiting season.

Hush. The adults are trying to discuss football.

Go outside and play.

I'm a Clemson Fan that moved right outside Knoxville about 14 years ago and I've wondered the same thing. Seems like they've signed around 30 ever since I've been here

Only signed 22 last year.

2013- 23
2014- 32
2015- 30

I think he was able to sign more because of tremendous roster attrition from Dooleys last year.

I could be wrong tho.

Backcounting, processing, blue shirts, grey shirts, purple shirts and legacies paying their own way via their rich, successful fathers.

I don't know if he did or didn't.

I do know that you're a jackass that never posts anything funny, clever, or substantive.

When he was signing that many, those over 25 were counted against the previous year's class - perfectly legitimate. They were not non-qualifiers, since we don't mess with marginal students. Of course, we process a few out - just like everyone else does. This is another one of those totally incorrect memes about the Vols - we oversign, Kiffin was in major trouble with the NCAA (he had 6 minor violations), Kiffin was a great recruiter (his UT recruiting sucked, consisting largely of criminals and prima donnas who transferred).

You're not. You can finagle classes and backcount but no one can get past the 85 hard cap.

The recruiting services also tend to report kids who aren't actually given scholarships because our policy has been to allow even walk-ons to have their day and make announcements about where they're going to school so some of those numbers are actually pretty deceptive to begin with.

Kiffin at UT was a while ago. Don't think anything he did has much bearing on this question and conversation.

Actually, it had quite a lot of bearing. The first true class CBJ signed that everyone freaked out over was the size it was because the attrition from Kiffin's sole class and Dooley's classes left slots available that could be filled.

That class couldn't and wouldn't have happened without that attrition.

My mistake. Thought Dooley was there for 4 years. A quick search shows me it was just 3.

Interesting question, and legitimate football discussion.

In other words, this will either turn into a troll thread or die a quick death.
