Hell, he even had Chris freaking Todd putting up decent passing numbers.

Yeah I was wondering this for a while. I had heard this occasionally from a few posters on here but I didn't know if there was any overall truth behind it. I imagined it was just wishful thinking.

I'd rather it be more pass than run tbh. GSU came into Tuscaloosa when we had our GOAT defense and ring up 300+ yards rushing. That was more than like half our schedule combined. It was a sight to behold. I hate that offense

to be fair, Todd wasn't a terrible QB. 2008 was just that bad of a year, especially considering he wasn't anywhere close to 100%. Yes, Gus's system helped in 2009, but he was always a good decision maker with really good accuracy. 2008 he just had no arm whatsoever to put anything behind the ball.

This is a very good question by the OP. It proves that not every thread on the rant is a troll thread.

To the OP, you will get your question answered fully next (2015) year. Jeremy Johnson is an excellent QB. He has decent mobility but has exceptional pocket presence and good touch on the deep balls. Once he develops the intermediate routes, you will see a devestating passing game.

Gus is the best offensive mind in the game. Most people just do not want to admit that fact (yet).

A Sean White led offense will pass more.

That's an offense that will really stand tall.

What coach doesn't do this? This is a retarded statement at its finest and the Auburn followers that believe Gus is doing something revelutionary by adjusting the offense is even more rediculous.

I should have added that, he was actually a very good one, until he got hurt. The 2008 season was such a horrendous dumpster fire, I don't know if Cam could have done anything to help. I think what Gus did in 2009, was put Todd in situations that he was comfortable with, passing wise, that helped him succeed.

I also was impressed with the fact that after all the shite he took in 2008 from the fanbase, he came back and played in 2009.

Yea. That pump and go pass to Zachary against WSU or whoever we started the season with that year was awesome. That game was pretty tight up to that point, and then that happened and the offense started clicking from then on out.

Seriously, Todd didn't have a rotator cuff

but Gus still took the 2008 offense which averaged 17.3 PPG and was the 9th worst offense in the nation and turned them in 2009 into 22nd best offense at 32.9 PPG

Not sure why other fans cannot understand that fundamental aspect of offense.

Reading the Mizzou butthurt thread about the SECCG and Auburn's defense got me wondering about a couple of things and a post I remember seeing a while back.

1. Is Malzahn's offensive look and scheme from last year his offense in its truest form? I watched the 2010 SECCG yesterday because I'm AUBsessed, and you could tell it was a Gus offense obviously. It was a good bit different and more pass oriented than this past year.

2. Is ^ a result of QB trust? Is it safe to assume Gus won't entirely ditch that triple-option bonanza, but use more of that high flying spread eagle that wrecked shite so much in 2010? Nick Marshall has 1 year under the system so I'm guessing his experience should open up the playbook, as with any QB who goes through a season and experiences the rigors of adversity and having to make big time plays in big games.

3. If 2 is incorrect, then when Gus has THE qb that he wants, will the offense have a slight shift to accommodate his strengths? Thank you.

Cam was a better inside runner than Nick, Nick was faster to the edge than Cam. Cam was there for the Spring and had a better grasp of the passing game than Nick. Nick now has had a Spring practice and his WRs are waaaaaaay better than Cam's.

I guess what I'm saying is....we're still gonna kill everybody.

Of course good coaches adjust, some are innovative and take it a step further. IMO, CGM and his staff are some of the best offensive minds in the game today.

answering by question:

1. Sort of, yes. He doesn't necessarily have "an offense". He truly builds the offense from scratch around his QB. He might be the most QB friendly OC in the country in that regard. He rarely asks his QBs to do anything they're not comfortable with. Go watch him at Tulsa and watch his Auburn offenses. They're night and day different.

2. Its not a "trust" thing in the offense he builds, but he does ask for more input and allow QBs to check the play off based on the looks they see if he trusts them. Marshall earned Gus' trust near the end of the year last year. Marshall called the TD pass to Coates where he almost went past the LOS.

3. See 1 and 2.
