Year but he’s in the hunt most years. I don’t know expect Johnson to win the CWS every year or even the SEC but my Lord, I didn’t expect this kind of drop. I KNOW..they lost a lot but they should re-load.

I’m sure it helps with recruiting.

even van horn had some down years in his early years
it happens

he's been a lot more consistent lately but has also had really good teams that failed to make Omaha

in 2016 he went 26-29 and 7-23 in the sec as a comparison

if this is the outlier for Jay Johnson then they will be fine long term

Well when you have a coach that’s been at the school for 25 years I think it’s safe to assume it’s the foundation that’s always there.

Like many have pointed out a recruiting class we had a few years ago that would be juniors gutted us. It’s only year three for Johnson. He’s still building his foundation and it takes time.

Maineri was fairly consistent but I never thought he did a great job hiring elite assistants with the budget we gave him. Kelly has always gone after the best, and even if Yeskie doesn’t pan out I can’t blame us hiring a guy Schlossngle and Pat Casey approve of:

Based off of what? Jay is like 20 years younger than Dave Van Horn and is already just as proven.

This sounds crazy but coaches do learn, grow, and adapt. Jay was a 20+ year hire for us like DVH was for Arkansas in 2000

One down season has really broken y'all. Pretty sure Arky would happily trade baseball history with LSU.

How is he just as proven; cause he won one Natty with primarily another Coach’s players?

LET THAT SINK IN! JAY.. HAS PLAYED FOR MORE NATTIES THAN DVH.

you people are absolutely ridiculous. it is one fricking down season. i can't stand y'all's negativity.

This is as dumb as fans comparing will Wade to Kim mulkey. You can’t fairly compare two coaches when they’re legitimately 20 years apart.

Jay built Nevada from nothing into a winner, then he won at Arizona, where there is tradition but not the resources SEC schools have. Van Horn was a pitching coach only prior to Arkansas the hogs have the best stadium in the country and have had for some time.

As someone mentioned earlier-what’s your explanation for Arkansas going 7-23 in sec play in 2016? Does that mean Dave van horn is a fraud? Bad seasons just happen. How is this so confusing for some of you? Corbin and O’Sullivan have also had awful seasons with loaded rosters. What exactly is your explanation for that?

Jay is young, a winner, and highly respected in the profession. But comparing coaches with nearly two decades between coaching is just fricking dumb

I think Johnson will be fine. But Van Horn was more than just a pitching coach. He won a D2 national championship then took doormat Nebraska to 2 CWS.

???

Van Horn built Nebraska of all places into a baseball power prior to going to Arkansas. He's been a head coach at various levels for 30+ years.

That it's not true. Pretty sure O'Sullivan hasn't missed a regional, and Corbin hasn't missed on since 2005 (2020 notwithstanding).

Right, but you are OK with LSU not winning a title in 21 years for the sake of your version of consistency, I guess. Also he has been to Omaha in that period 7 times and played in the title series once and lost.

In that same time the Tigers have won 2 titles and been to Omaha 8 times and played in the title series 3 times. Jay Johnson has played for the title twice and won it once.

DVH finished 7th in the SEC West a few years back. They actually had a losing record overall. You wouldn't be able to have handled that either. I'd love to have seen what you would have said had that happened to one of your coaches.

DVH is like 17 years older than Jay and he's only played for 1 championship in his 34 years of coaching.

Jay has already played for 2. Jay is very much consistent. Look at his record. He has won at every stop. He has also been coach of the year in multiple conferences.

It's one down season. Even your precious DVH had one within the past decade.
