Question about traveling to Omaha for the CWS

For those of you that have made the trip; how do you plan out a trip that may last a week (or how ever long), or possibly only a few days? It seems like it could cost a lot of money for a week of hotel rooms and the lack of being able to effectively plan for vacation time from work make this pretty hard to plan a trip if your team goes far in the tournament. I assume driving is preferred for the flexibility?
I always hear how great it is to make the trip to omaha for the series, just curious how most of you all with experience were able to make it happen and how long you were there for.

Friday-Wednesday is best case if you can go for a week.
Two games a day from Sat-Tues, and the first weekend has all 8 teams and is the most fun.

When State went a few years back we all sold our trailers.
Or just brought em with us.

So you either have to pull the trigger quick for the most games, or hold off and see how far your team is getting then get up there for the finale if they make it? I mean I am sure there are retirees with RV's and college kids who cram 8 guys into a room for a whole week, but it seems for most normal people, you better pick one end of the series to go to.

I refused to go to the opening week because they spread it out so. You stay in the winner's bracket and you play on Friday. That is just too long to be out there. We went to the championship series and that was something that I would not exchange for anything. Tickets are tough but we actually had fun doing it (being downtown at 7:00 AM was pretty sucky). The drive is hell but we made it.

Well, fans of 7 of the 8 teams do go home disappointed, so the only ones who would end up regretting leaving early are the 1 of 8 that wins it all.

Well SC has made it to the finals in 4 of our last 6 appearances so we just plan for the best.

ETA: I understand that there are RV hookups at the casino just across the bridge in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I could do that.

When we there two years ago I showed up for two games. No one with a real job can just take off for two weeks out of the blue. There is a lot of driving back and forth. Or flying back and forth if you can get good rates.

I googled, 12+ hours from Starkville. 14+ from Atlanta
Thats some windshield time
Are hotels somewhat reasonable? Do you get extra screwed over by your team by having to pay an early departure fee to the hotel?

quote:It gets more reasonable as teams are eliminated. The Hampton across from home plate was $235 a night. I went out farther for championship series and paid $106. Nothing special but hotels are never special to me. Seems like there is a Holiday Inn Express right by the Hampton. Do a search.

Who are you going to watch? You are an Auburn fan, right?

I've gone twice and just went to the first couple of games. I went to three games over three days this time.
I don't think many people block off the entire week. At least not people with jobs and lives.

I'd add its a really fun time. Like a big party before and after the games. I will go every time we make it from now on. Its only 6 hrs from Fayetteville.

Yes I am which is why I have no clue about traveling to Omaha

I am not going up this year or anything. I just know that if Auburn is up there some year that I would like to make the trip. At that point I started thinking "how do you even plan a trip with how long it goes on". Much more difficult than flying to LA to go to 1 football game. It was a curiosity question more than anything.
I do envy you all though that have made it. Love some baseball.
