How often are referees actual former players?

I can only imagine that swole AF head referee has had a run in or two with some antler spray

All I know is Tom Ritter was a walk on at Bama, pledged Sigma Nu, graduated from the Capstone with an accounting degree, and was a Tide Pride season ticket holder for many years while starring on Three's Company

Was not expecting this one.

You do see a lot of refs (NFL and NCAA) getting all buff. I wonder if it's because they just wanna look good for tha cameras.

The ref that tackled Stephen Garcia was an all-SEC linebacker at Kentucky and the first black team captain in SEC history
