The field dimensions of Rosenblatt and Ameritrade are exactly the same. There is a prevailing wind out of the south during the summer in Omaha. Rosenblatt was oriented to face northeast. Ameritrade Park is oriented to face southeast. They have totally taken away the home run ball. What were they thinking?

what I heard is that they wanted the feel of a MLB stadium, the turn has the city in the background. If you are sitting on the 3rd base line you can see downtown behind the right field fence. Also from the first base line you can see the pedestrian bridge in the background. It has everything to do with what people see in the stadium and not how the park plays.

this video explains all of the changes of the new stadium

Are you sure? It's not on the ocean, near a mountain rage, or anything, I'd doubt there's much of a prevailing wind anywhere in Omaha and it would mostly be determined upon the weather conditions at the time and how the overall weather system is cycling at the time of the game.

No matter what and with very few exceptions, the weather moves across the state of Nebraska from east to west so it shouldn't effect it much other than to change the reward from righties to lefties. Even then it should be negligible.

There's some storms in Nebraska today, so I could see a southern wind coming in from the gulf, but that's not a normal situation unless there's a storm system coming in.

Actually, Omaha is a nice, very clean city. I was surprised.

Really? How many HRs has LSU launched outta TD Ameritrade?

I agree with the OP ... they weren't thinking. They goofed. What they did not anticipate was the backlash - and the backlash is growing.

There is no wind in TDA Stadium.

It was built on a landfill next to the river at almost the lowest elevation spot in Omaha in what was once a swamp.

Not only does this create a stifling situation for the fans, it also contributes to the horrible problem fans and players have with fighting gnats and flies (not baseball flies....buzzing insect flies).

Rosenblatt sat on top of a ridge overlooking the river and the city and the wind was blowing almost all the time from some direction.

Of course it is. Less than 30 minute drive to the east in Iowa is one of the largest wind turbine electricity generating farms in the country.

There are literally hundreds of 12-15 story high wind turbines as far as the eye can see both to the south and north of the interstate on the way to Des Moines.

But the wind can't get down into the hole that is TDA Stadium.

OOPS! Thanks. I'll correct it.

Nope. It was exactly what I experienced last year when LSU was there.

I've never been there when at least one game was not called or delayed for weather ... usually bad thunderstorms. I've never been there when at least one game, usually more, were not determined by said storm's influence in one way or another - usually residual winds on the outskirt of a storm whipping through somewhere else.

It'll happen this year.

Understood, but it's going to be a variable wind based on the landscape and storm fronts, not a prevailing wind.

I'm just saying it's not going to be a constant wind from a certain direction due to its location. The wind will vary from time to time based on a lot of conditions that have very little to do with the ballpark's location.

When they change the ball to have less drag it will help the college game. Be much more like MLB.

I was there for the finals but not any of our day games. I didn't experience any of that.

It won't do very much. It will affect the movement of pitches more than it will help with HRs. These current bats are terrible and don't reward hitting one on the screws. MLB players that have taken BP with both say they would rather the wood 100% over the BBCOR. Ryan Theriot talked about it a few weeks ago on a local radio show.

I was there for only the first 4 days. Maybe by the time you got there the gnats were full.....
