This happened a bit quicker than anticipated, due to the shelter being under new management and needing to downsize a little.

The habitat at LSU isn't finished being remodeled yet.

True Mike Whatever story back from the 70's: LSU was playing USC, Marcus Allen & all those all future all pros. As was the custom back then, they parked Mike's cage right in front of the old tunnel where the visiting team came out on the field. It was a lot smaller area back then. Just as the Trojans started running on the field, one of the cheerleaders...note, aggies, not yell leaders..goosed Mike with "something" and he lunged towards the players with the cage keeping him only a few feet away & let out this earth shattering roar. Several Trojan players said for yrs they had nightmares bout that sound & this huge Tiger lunging at them.

I hope it gets loose during a football game and slaughters Saban.

A few years back, then Mike did get out and was roaming campus for awhile, fortunately it was during Thanksgiving break and there weren,t many folks around

I saw where they getting a new tiger pretty soon. Go Tigers Frick PETA

My issue with PETA on this is that there are actually 100s of Tigers in captivity at trash "animal reserves" all around the country. If there were no tigers in the US not already in zoos then maybe I could see their point. But what we are doing is taking animals that have pretty terrible lives and giving them a zoo quality (actually better than zoo quality) existence. We have a top 10 vet school in America that dedicates incredible resources to taking care of this mascot and an entire enclosure just for him that is better than any zoo I have ever been to.

Is LSU associated with a large cat rehabilitation center similar to Auburn's Southeastern Raptor Center? It would be awesome if they did.

I think the tiger is part of the mystique of lsu football, just like ole smiley and the eagle. Hope they stay around forever.

And not even making him go for a little ride a few Saturdays each fall ... if he doesn't want to.

Purely voluntary.

And, obligatory "frick off" to the Turkey Creek douche.

One memorable incident involving Mike IV began in the early-morning hours of November 28, 1981 when pranksters cut the locks on Mike's cage. The tiger roamed freely for hours, attacked a small tree, and appeared to be enjoying himself before becoming trapped in the Track Stadium near his cage. Three tranquilizer shots later, the wandering mascot was returned to his home without further incident and awoke without ill effects
