Was that expected?

Find any mention of him here by me and it will probably include “didn’t develop as expected.”

Fun kid to watch when everything was clicking, and he undoubtedly had the game of his life against Clemson in the Elite Eight.

Wish him the best, and hope some team can help tap his potential.

How is all of this not just mercenaries going to the highest bidders? The Supreme Court has destroyed any semblance of amateurism with this version of NIL. The basketball part of this is absolutely bonkers. The football side might take a few years more to hit this level of chaos because of numbers but it's coming.

Look, all of this is ugly but is any of it surprising at this point?

Reality is:
-Bama doesn’t make the F4 without Pringle locking in defensively and as a rebounder during the tournament run
-Pringle was suspended then almost got kicked off the team multiple times last year
-Oats turns most of the roster every year
-there are multiple potential 5* starters coming in next year in the post and assuming Stevenson is back Pringle was not guaranteed a starting spot

Is Pringle leaving good for Bama? No.
Is Pringle leaving catastrophic or surprising? No
Should anyone be surprised or bent out of shape at players coming or going in 2024? No

Unfortunately for us as fans, that’s basically what it is, with less (if any) cap restrictions compared to the pros.

Think about JQ last season — a huge part of an Alabama team that won the SEC and was a #1 overall seed — who transferred in the offseason to play at Memphis and didn’t even make the NCAAT this year. Wonder why?

Some of these kids are realizing they’ve only got a year or two of basketball left in their careers, and they’re trying to get what they can. Which I can’t blame them for, but consequently it’s making a terrible mess of the sport.

People still want to tell themselves Grant Nelson, JQ or Dalton Knecht transferred last year out of love for the school they went to but it just isn’t the reality.

They are minor league basketball players chasing the biggest NIL deal they can get.

Do they end up liking the school they go to? Maybe, but that’s not why they’re doing what they’re doing.

We are now in an era of hyper free agency and many of these guys have more in common with a journeyman major leaguer than a love of the game 5th year instate player from 20 years ago. They’re just wearing your jersey until the next deal comes along.

You don’t see other teams troll the Braves when they lose a middle reliever, not sure how any of this is different in NIL era college sports?

Not as bad as this,

Billy Richmond has decommitted from Kentucky.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Richmond is ranked as high as 20th overall in the 2024 class by On3, while his lowest ranking is 39th at ESPN.

He now joins Jayden Quaintance, Somto Cyril, Boogie Fland, and Karter Knox as the players in the 2024 class to reopen their recruitments after the announcement of Calipari leaving Lexington.

Richmond was high school teammates with DJ Wagner, so he and DJ will end up together most likely.

The fact that the entire recruiting class backed out should not be surprising with a coaching change.

None of them though have committed elsewhere, so who knows where they will all end up. Probably several in Arkansas, but we don't know yet.

They can only come back if the team will take them back.

That’s basically every year now in college basketball. Alabama lost most of the roster and all three assistants off the 2022-23 team.

Unfortunately if you're leaving Bama, it's because you probably won't get much playing time.

It's literally the highest ranked class we've ever signed. #3 nationally with the #10, #25 and #47 ranked players......with McNeeley (#15) still a possibility.

Correct.

Alabama has now had five transfer exits, but as of right now only has two open roster spots.

As discussed ad infinitum, one of those two probably needs to be a rim-protecting big (center).

In other words, you hate to see it, but someone had to go.

This isn’t the burn your op is trying to make it. Sure he played good against Clemson but dude couldn’t catch wide open pick and rolls all year.

I don’t care one bit if he leaves

Lamont Paris rubs his hands in the distance. SC kids with one more year of eligibility is how he's made his living so far.

Wouldnt have been in the final 4 without him.

But this was expected. Pretty sure he went through senior day. And he was suspended at least twice this year.

And he really isn't a fit as a stretch 4 in Oats' system. He has no outside shot. Main offense is pick and roll. Hopefully we upgrade and he gets to ball out next year as well.

Wish him nothing with the best and glad to have had him on Bama's team the last couple of years. He was fun to watch.
