or maybe it's you that hasn't learned.

Texas has been ranked end of season 48/80 seasons. Smart money says rank them.

By the same math, they also had it right by leaving A&M off the list.. 26/80 times you've been ranked at the end of the season.

Time to create another tradition or fake championship to reconcile those stats?

mean saying that Bama at one point returned 5* Tyler Love or 5* Jerrell Harris is just somewhat misleading

Whatever dude. I hardly think a comparison between Tyler Love and D. Hand are in order. The recruiting gurus usually get it right with 5 stars that sign with Bama. The defense will be salty as frick as usual.

I've got to be honest, it's pretty weak using recruiting rankings for guys who have been in the program for 3, 4 or 5 years

I think you miss my point. The point is that 2017 Alabama has nine defensive players that are projected to be drafted ... which means they are eligible to be drafted, ... which means they are upper classmen with three-four years of experience. They are not true sophomores thrown into the gap.

The only reason people don't know their names is because when they came into the program they were playing behind two ranks of NFL quality players who were drafted. The only reason the recruiting rankings are mention is because that is a category in my spread sheet and gives a context to just who these players are.

Alabama's depth at LB next year will be off the charts and its whole defense will possibly be as good as this year's. Im not too worried about the defense next year, but all that remains to be determined doesn't it?

The defense in 2018 season is another question because of a shortage of DB recruits last year ... so look for Saban to put a big push on getting JC transfer DBs next spring.

The offense didn't exactly produce rave reviews under new offensive coordinator Matt Canada in the spring game, but Ed Orgeron's first full season will revolve around some familiar themes. LSU will have a power running game built around an excellent offensive line and Heisman Trophy contender Derrius Guice. It's on Danny Etling to come through at quarterback in Canada's new scheme. The talent is always there.

Show's how little this writer knows. LSU's O-Line is probably its worst unit this year.

That's a very interesting Top 6 in the league.

And that's my point, both were 5* recruits but shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. Only listing a recruiting ranking doesn't acknowledge that. You can list Da'Ron Payne, Minkah, AA, Hand, all those guys they've done some great things. You can talk about their strengths and weaknesses, or where you think they've improved, etc. Them starting/being in rotation on really strong defenses.

But if you just list the recruiting rankings, then Dillon Bates was a top 100 recruit. Kyle Phillips, Khalil McKenzie, and Shy Tuttle were all top 50 guys. That certainly doesn't mean I think UT's defense is going to be otherworldly.

About that, there is no doubt. But everybody and their mother knows Bama is going to roll out 4 and 5 stars at pretty much every position, so listing them by their recruiting ranking doesn't mean much, imo.

Unranked 6 out of the last 7 seasons. While A&M hasn't been that much better (ranked at the end of the 2010, 2012, and 2013 seasons), 3/7 is EXPONENTIALLY BETTER than 1/7.

irrelevant to the point, but thanks for noticing we both suck lately.. Texas has just sucked more.

the moral victory game is for losers.

Harbaugh has benefited from Hoke's recruiting up to this point. He took over a team with some damn good talent.

Looks like Sporting News is at least one publication that isn't making Notre Dame a preseason lock for the 4 team playoff. After ND's first win that will probably change however.

Still don't quite understand the Georgia love.

Lost 5 games last year and it's not like they improved as the season went on, or that their quarterback looked like he made major strides in the spring.

Not trying to troll, I just don't think Georgia is a top 10 team.

Yeah, I know we both detest UGA, but I just don't see it. I think they'll finish in the top-25, but I don't think they'll win the East.
