Auburn fans don't think Malzhan was the best choice. They know that he was the best Jay Jacobs could come up with at the time. There's nothing they can do about this hire anymore than they could about the 5-19 Chizik hire. But, now that he is in place, they will support him and the program just like any other fanbase would do.

this sums it up pretty good.

But wrong board...no reasonable discussion allowed on this board.

Chizik's still there if he leads AU to 4-7 last year instead of 3-8 with an upset over Bama. Dispute it if you like, but deep down you all know it's true.

I really don't think so. The decision to fire him came after the Vanderbilt game.

A win against Alabama would have given a lot of people some ammunition to want to keep him, but I just don't think the powers that be could and expect people to want to buy tickets to next years games.

well, he sure made Chris Todd a better QB and that is something I'm sure not many expected.

the Clint Moseley/Barrett Trotter experiment was pretty bad but it sure trumped what ever the hell it was Auburn put on the field last year.

in short, the offense will be better, probably much improved.

Over the past few years they've just been pushed around out there on that side of the ball. Changing a mentality that has seemed to have stooped to a new low might take some time to correct. They haven't played that poorly in back-to-back seasons like that on defense in LONG time.

Can he delegate effectively?

If he can, he will do well.

I think he will produce a lot of 6-9 win seasons until you guys decide you've had enough.

He will do well for a while. I see him as a coach that will use a lot of trick plays, and these will work for a short period of time. Then the coaches will be looking for them, and then he's history.

At Auburn it isn't about wins, its about beating Bama. If Gus cant keep a winning record or at least split the record with Saban he wont be there long.

If you said 'and,' instead of 'or' i'd be less inclined to disagree with you.

Typically winning a decent amount of games includes beating bama and losing a bunch invovles losing to bama also. But the 'only bama matters' is a myth that exist only to inflate your egos.

Yes it is.

The coach wont last if he doesnt have winning records AND spilt the record with Alabama.

If he has mediorce after mediocre seasons, the fanbases will grow pretty restless if we arent in contention with the west every other year or so.

It goes for both teams. Curry and Perkins had decent seasons but couldnt beat Auburn and they were canned.

You seem like a sharp guy.

Must have been Tubby's downfall. Having a losing record to Saban/Alabama. Thanks for the enlightenment.

I think he may have a couple 9 win seasons before his tenure on the plains is up.

The story I was told was the PTB saw where the program was headed and why gus left and took a pretty big pay cut to be one year removed from the program and was told the job was his after the season was tanked by cheesewhiz. Had he stayed he would have been seen as part of the problem by the unwashed masses down on the plains and gus will go with the flow and not ask too many questions which tubs played the game at first but then thought beating Alabama 6 in a row he had gained some power.

Tuberville says hello after getting his arse handed to him 36-0 to end a 6 year run against Alabama. The only real myth is you seriously think your program is relevant in the grand scheme of things.

...but if Gene Chizik won an NC with that 2010 roster no doubt Tubby would have done it too.

Tubby wouldn't have had that roster because he wouldn't have recruited Newton. According to Rivals, he had no offer from Tuberville in 2007, and Luper and Malzahn certainly wouldn't have been there to recruit him in 2010.

Will empty his bag of tricks. Over/under on players hiding behind guard will be 2.5/game.
