Jalen Collins is almost a first round lock, will be a first round lock after the combine based on size and speed

La'el will go in the first.

Jalen is not a lock, in any way. As has been already posted, he's a fringe 1st rounder who can improve his stock by running a sub 4.5 40. Anything higher than that and he's going to be a early 2nd rounder.

Check out Walter's projected SEC first rounders for 2016. Unreal talent across the board.

Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss)
Vernon Hargreaves III (Florida)
Cam Sutton (Tennessee)
A'Shawn Robinson (Alabama)
Leonard Floyd (Georgia)
Duke Williams (Auburn)
Robert Nkemdiche (Ole Miss)
Chris Jones (Mississippi State)
Derrick Henry (Alabama)
LaQuon Treadwell (Ole Miss)
OJ Howard (Alabama)
Marquez North (Tennessee)
Josh Augusta (Missouri)
Vadal Alexander (LSU)
Tony Conner (Ole Miss)

14 first rounders from tSEC

If Jalen goes in the first, it's because of a remarkable lack of depth. His talent is more like a mid to late 2nd pick ceiling.

I'm surprised he's got Josh Augusta on there and not Harold Brantley. Brantley's undersized at about 6'2 285, but he's very gifted athletically. I guess Harold's still flying under the radar.

Yep, he probably would be a first rounder if not for the injury

I'd call La'el top 10 potential without necessarily having top 10 hype. He's one that will be a solid journeyman no matter what, but it's hard to tell from the evidence thus far if he'll be an actual star at his position (inasmuch as OTs rarely get the hype they deserve anyway.) I like him a lot, it's just that his measurables and game tape, as far as I've seen, don't make him an automatic elite pick at this juncture. My biggest problem with him is that he's strong, but not particularly quick.

My prediction: mid-to-late first round. Somebody's going to need a reliable OL pick around there.

kind of reminds me of Karlos Dansby.

Both are taller LB's that have the range to play the pass.

Danielle Hunter is going to get into the first round somehow.

I dont see how anyone can say Gurley or Henry ( next year) will be first rounders. There just haven't been multiple running backs going in the first round the last couple of years. There are a few teams out there that really like to run the ball, but the FA list of RBs this year is really long. I dont know if one goes in the first this year, but if one does, its probably Melvin Gordon.

I wouldn't peg either as first rounders. Both have had injury issues, especially Gurley, and I don't see either as becoming elite in the pros. Yeldon, especially, did a good job in college but doesn't have the running style or build that inspires confidence in his ability to translate seamlessly into the pros. I actually think he might be better as a situational half/tailback or tight-end, assuming he can manage instinctual blocking. Gurley is a bit better as an RB than Yeldon, but he also has more injury concerns than Yeldon.

Of course, I'm no NFL scout, so I fully concede I could be wrong about either or both of them. Mind you, I think they're both hella good players, so I'm not knocking them, just pondering their potential in the NFL.

A guy from SB Nation was interviewed on local radio from the Combine. When asked about players whose stock was on the rise, the first name he mentioned was La'El Collins. I just looked at 7 mock drafts and every one of them had Collins in the first round, from 10-26. Pretty sure he's in your definite group. Jalen Colins was listed as a first-rounder in 4 of the 7 so he's in the right group. McKinney was listed as a first rounder in 6 of the 7 so he's a pretty good bet as well.

ETA Typo

When Jerald Hawkins goes higher than everyone on this list other than Hargreaves and Treadwell I'm sure Walter's gonna feel dumb.

This guy is the most unlikely, and I say that because of the numbers game.

Amari Cooper
Devin Funchess
Jaelen Strong
Kevin White
Davante Parker

Nelson Agholor
Doreil Green-Beckham
Sammie Coates
Tony Lippett

The first 5 will definitely go in the first round, but I don't know about 6 or 7 WRs going in the first.

ETA: I don't see how J. Collins is projected to go in the first. Yes I know there are limited CBs in this class, but just go after another position. His combine will put up some good numbers (prediction 6'2 190-195 4.48-4.52 40), but I don't know if he will do enough to go that high.

I say mid 2nd round to high 3rd round.

ETA 2: La'el is a lock for 1st round. Teams like him as a top RT, G, or the #3 LT.

Doesn't he get that big insurance pot if he falls out of the first round? I want to say 5 mill, but it might be 10 mill.

Tre white will also be a first rounder. Vadal I'm not as sure about though.

I think "possibility" is a very good word for his chances.

Tt, you posted this thread in FEB. since then, and up until yesterday Collins was a top 15 pick in ever draft model.
