Pray for them now along with the first responders and fire fighters, they need it
Fire threatens thousands and could devastate the economy of an entire region

Wild fires are scary things. They can spread so fast in the right conditions that its virtually impossible to stop them.

We've all joked about Tennessee fans burning down the state. We never thought anything like this would happen when we made those jokes.
Prayers to all involved and lets hope they get this thing contained quickly with as little damage as possible.

Sad chain of events throughout N.Ala, N.Ga, Tenn, and the Carolina's with this drought.
Hate it for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Even though that area has gotten cheesy and overcrowded it still holds memories from family trips during my childhood.
Maybe the little bit of rain we're getting this week and this weekend will help a little.
Stay safe Sarge.

Heavy rain is in the forecast tonight for the region. Much needed. Eastern Kentucky has been having fires for weeks.

Just terrible.
I read on Twitter that it started raining last night. Is that not accurate?

Yes praying for that area. My wife was in tears when she saw that one of our favorite destinations. It's beautiful.

Took a U12 team to the Cal Ripken Experience this summer. First time to visit Pigeon Forge. Very nice destination. Prayers for those people in this area.

Yes but it wasnt enough.
And Gatlinburg is the one being hardest hit.
According to some shite I just read its taken Ober Gatlinburg and that resort just behind it, the Westgate resort is completely gone, over 100 structures in that one, and 2 hotels on that end of town. On the other end, where you come in from Pigeon Forge, Hillbilly golf is gone. Thats the putt putt place on the left going all the way up the side of the hill right there as youre coming in to town and then all the way up Reagan Drive, which if I remember is the road that comes down the hill from the left and intersects right there where the aquarium is, is gone as well. there are a few motels on that road.
This really sucks hard :(

It takes LOTS of rain to suppress wildfires and Noah-level rain doesn't do jack-squat for structure fires.
Even worse, this is what is called an Wildland-urban interface fire, which simply means a fire where the city meets the woods. Once the first structures start going, it becomes a fight to save city blocks.
I just finished watching a press conference where the fire chief said they had recorded wind speeds of 87mph during the height of it. There's literally nothing you can do in those conditions.
