20 team playoff ruins the regular season

Regular season would still count for a lot.

Top four from the SEC last year would have been UA, Mo,SC,AU. That would have been a pretty salty contingent from our conference.

It also had a lot to do with the additional 1 billion annually in funding they will all receive now for their CIC. A little bit more than the B1G network.

Not discounting the CIC or the value to Big 10 members. It was more icing on the cake by adding Rutgers and Maryland. But lets not kid ourselves they added them to gain 30% of the US tv market, 30% by adding 2 schools. Huge alum bases from Big 10 schools in DC and NYC, but the kicker is how much more they can now charge for Big 10 subscriptions in those cities since it now falls under their "footprint". The revenue from new subscriptions and higher prices won't be known for a while, so no I can't compare the CIC value.

20 teams is too many. I have said 12 teams. 8 conference champs plus 4 at large. Top 4 conference champs get a bye. That keeps the conference season important. Have first 2 rounds at stadium of the higher seeded team.

I don't see it happening. That means no 7 or 8 home game schedules. A lot of the weaker P5 teams need easier games to make bowl games. You also have a number of non-P5 teams that are more worthy than P5 teams. If there could be room for them to move up (BYU, UCF, Boise St, ECU, Houston, Cincy, etc), that would at least eliminate the last part.

I have completely done a 180 on this and I'm no longer in favor.

1. I like COLLEGE football, not a farm system of the NFL. I enjoy the little guys pulling off upsets
2. I don't want to see the non P5 schools having entire athletic budgets go to hell in a handbasket when they don't get that big payday.
3. I think bringing the playoff to a 8 team format will be enough.
4. If this goes through, the quality of the players to the NFL will DECLINE, and water down that league. There are a TON of players coming from the small schools that make the squads in the NFL. These players are beating out the P5 players. If this happens, we may not see as many non P5 schools field teams, and that would be a shame.

You can't look at this as the fan's point of view. You have to see this as the Business of College Football. The possibility of the wild upset is part of what fuels this great sport.

this is so dumb

why the frick should a game against Wake Forest or Rutgers be automatically considered better than a game against East Carolina, Boise, or BYU?

Saban also said playing exclusively Power Five opponents would help the selection committee pick the best four teams.

This. Care to guess who has the lowest strength of schedule in the SEC? That is right, it is Bama

Don't pat yourself on the back too hard. Miles' yes vote is just as hollow as Saban's. LSU routinely pays for 3 garbage games at home just like Alabama.

An underclassmen would get killed in the NFL. They need those years to develop physically.

Unfortunately your incredibly simplistic viewpoint on this subject in no way reflects reality. It is incredibly hard to schedule big 5 teams especially late in the season.

Do you really believe teams like Cal and Boston College want Bama to come kick their teeth in at the same part of the season they are playing their conference schedule?

Power 5 only schedule is a death blow to the La-Mo's and Tulane's of the world.

Thye lose a couple of paydays that they probably need.
