I honestly expected them to pick up from last year (and they still might), but the Toledo thing makes me wonder if Bert and his players lost the edge and got complacent.

A big oline is nice IF they keep they're activity levels up in the off season.......slim line between mauler and sluggo. Being hungry has two different meanings......

Yes it is. Unrealistic high expectations hurt a team. (See Auburn)

One opinion being voiced on NW Arkansas sports radio is that the Hogs skipped two-a-days this summer and aren't as tough as they should be.

Also, there isn't one, not one, prominent objective sports writer/journalist in the state that dares to write any critical articles concerning the Hogs. People read all the hype and start believing in the "what could go wrong" mantra about the new season. The Hog machine is well-oiled in Ark. no matter the reality of the situation.

The hype didn't come from local sports writers. I don't even read local sports, I highly doubt the national guys do either. The hype came from how we played end of last season.

Yeah. Y'all crushed Ole Miss, LSU, and tu. Y'all should have beat Alabama and Texas A&M. Arkansas was a good team last year. It's weird that it didn't care over.

But yet you write this:

So how would you know?

Because I have a brain. Do you think all the pollsters and prognosticators exchanged emails with Wally Hall before having us in the preseason top 25?

People don't take the losses from the prior year seriously enough in CFB. Sometimes a player means more than just being a player on the team.

Every team had a different personality. Even last years team took weeks to figure out what they were. We come out and trash tech this week we are right back on schedule. At the end of the day it was an OOC game. We lose this weekend it can unravel fast. Big week for the hogs

The loss of their weak side triangle on defense was significant. Those were exceptional players.

Their receivers (except for Henry and Morgan) had trouble dropping passes last year so that's not new. I expected Allen to be better this year too.

I was really shocked that the veteran offensive line didn't play like veterans. To have a line that experienced is golden in football.

Back in August, I'd have guessed that their rushing yards would have outpaced their passing yards after two games. That's not the case.

However, I don't think it's time for Arkansas fans to start shooting horses, flying planes, wearing black or burning trucks.

I have no dog in this fight, but there are few instances in CFB history where a loss like the one you absorbed to Toledo doesn't predict a mediocre season. 6-6, 7-6, 5-7 etc...maybe you expected that but I was referencing my recollection that some believed this team could challenge for the SEC title.

Auburn may indeed be 7-5, 8-4, 9-3 this season almost loosing to at team like JSU has historically been a predictor of being deficient in certain areas that will cause you trouble against elite teams. There are a few instances where teams struggle with teams like JSU and go on to figure it out and win a conference title but it is also unlikely at this point.

This is what I was suggesting earlier. arkie's attitude about it being no big deal was almost as silly as many Auburn fans thinking loosing NM wasn't a problem.

It was hype and the players and coaches being dumb enough to be brain washed by it. I saw zero killer instinct in your game against Toledo.

Coming into the season you had all of this experience back in the two deep and history tells us that teams tend to do very well when they have all of that type of experience back.

So far Arky has failed. And no you don't go from losing to a team like Toledo and running the table the rest of the season.

Great teams tend to dominate weaker competition and if they do get a scare, they at least win.

So the reality will be that Arkansas fails to get out of the season what they should have with all of that experience back and not finish in the top 3 in the division.

Mizzou beat 'em last reg. season game like a yard dog. The "BIG piglets are gonna dominate" is all we heard. Didn't. They were resting on their weak-ars knees in the 4th qtr while Mizzou was doing sprints up the middle. The Tigers cramed it down their throats, and made 'em like it.

We heard this r.kansas crap before. 2008 Cotton Bowl. McFadden was gonna rip-us. HA! Mizzou's Tony Temple set a Cotton Bowl rushing record. It was a laugh-er.

r.kansas truly believes their own crap, just like my ex-wife.

I remember when Steve Sullivan, David Bazzell and that former UA lineman had their Sunday recap show temporarily yanked off the air because they were being critical on the Hogs back during the Nutt, Broyles, Mustain and Malzahn days.
