I was thinking about the NC gam and how good both teams are and how fortunate , they may have been as well.

If 4-25 doesn't happen; does the clearly best team in Bama get left out If OM wins the SEC?

If UNC pulled off the upset, Clemson would have been left out; but what if ND had gotten the 2 point conversion and Clemson had still won out after a loss in OT to the Irish. Would they still have gotten in?

I ask these questions; because while Clemson & Bama are clearly the best 2 teams left; they could have not made it. In the format currently this is a real possibility each year. And while I see no reason why there should be 16 teams, 8 seems like a reasonable solution to reward teams the deserve a shot while preserving the Best teams at the time get in. The whole idea of it detracting from the regular season, in my opinion is absurd. The comparisons to the college basketball & March Madness are not apples to apples.

Basketball , teams play 30 games, a full conf. championship tournament, and allow 68 teams in the bracket. that's 21% of the teams.

Football, play 12 games, may have a conf. championship, and only 4 in the playoff. That's only 3% of the teams.

People really think that by adding 4 more teams, taking it to 6%, is really gonna take away from the regular season?

Good points. The best B1G team was left out, this process is awful. Bring back the BCS.

I think at some point you're asking the players to play too many games.

Also, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a team that realistically hopes to win the national championship to finish in the top 4.

I have always felt that 8 is the right number. I do think with an 8 team playoff the first round game would need to be played at the home field of the higher seeded team.

With 8 there will still be rumbling from the teams that were 9th, 10th etc.

This might also mean a slight reduction of some of the lesser bowls.

4 is the right number. The playoff committee got it right. Don't be pissed you bombed during the season and than had a good bowl game so you think you deserve to be in. OSU and Stanford both had chances to get in and blew it.

Top 4 would have been the same this year.

I'll be okay if they extended it to six teams. Anything more than that is overkill IMO. I really don't want to see two loss national champions.

Yes, it will.

Expanding it opens up the playoff to teams that lose two games. That takes away a lot of the meaning out of the regular season....which is the best regular season in sports. Whoever wins the two games in the current playoff is a worthy champion. There are no doubts or uncertainties like under the BCS.

We're already on the brink of devaluing the Conference Championship games.

Good. Last year's champ would've been Bama vs. Florida State with FSU annihilation. Teams have to earn it now more than ever, which is a good thing. Also allows other deserving teams a shot like Ohio State last year.

first steps they should take would be narrow the FBS division to 72 teams and ban FBS teams playing lower division games. have 6 conferences and take the champs plus the top 10 non champs in a sweet 16. however they do it I would be in favor of swapping the games we have no business playing now for 2 more weeks of playoffs. everybody contender plays 2 teams a season like that, some quite a few more.

I tend to agree with this but man I sure would like the winners of every P5 conference plus three at larges.

Eight would be the ideal number. It would allow some fresh blood into the process.

Traditional powers always get the benefit of the doubt and waved through.

Let them earn it for a change.

4 is plenty. Bama's been in playoff mode since September. I think we would have got the nod over OSU as only team not to win conference champ and over a 2 losses Stanford if OM lost. I just don't want to replay other SEC teams. Ask LSU how that works out. Plus, ask yourself how much you liked this year's bowls. I did a lot and you don't want the bowls to look like the NIT.

i don't know but i'm sure glad that one play gave us 28 points just to get caught up to ole miss in that game because it certainly wasn't a back and forth game at all.

You know ESPN wants 8 and they will push their agenda but it needs to stay at 4 unless you reduce the regular season which is not going to happen either due to money.

Any more teams in the playoff, you risk injury to players for their NFL future as well.

I'd rather leave 1 good team out than let 4 more undeserving teams in.

The regular season must matter, the bigger the playoff field the less the regular season matters.

Exclusivity is a good thing, it makes it an awesome achievment.

Let's not turn college football into college basketball.
