Question - what will the friend of your’s husband do as a G5 coach if they ride that “1-year commitment” player to a March Madness run?

He’d parlay that success into a “big deal at a larger school”.

The fact that coaches b and moan about NIL is beyond ironic.

The NCAA model would not fly in any other model.

There was a survey done recently where over 50% of all college football viewership is from only 18 schools. 15 of those are SEC & Big 10.

Would college football fans really be upset if the SEC loses it's rent-a-wins against the Troy, UAB, or ULM? College football would be just fine if half the schools stopped playing all together.

A friend of mine's husband is a basketball assistant at a group of five school and she stated last signing period a couple of incoming players informed the coaches that their plan was to sign with their school, but they were hoping to play well and sign a big NIL deal with a larger school. She stated one of those players is having a great season and her husband is frustrated because they already know they're going to lose him and there's nothing they can do about it!

Don't you just love the transfer portal and NIL!

As T-Bob (everyone's favorite) stated this morning, this is a sign of a healthy market. Guys that rise to the top of their level get the opportunity to cash in and play on a bigger stage.

He also mentioned Miami of Ohio's FB coach is leaning into this part. He says he's getting recruits from Ohio that typically would go to Purdue or Pitt to come to Miami of Ohio because he is selling that if they play well for him, they can get bigger opportunities 2-3 years down the road.

I totally agree with what you're saying and all coaches know that's part of the business - players and coaches are going to come and go based on the level of success they are having.

In fact, my friend stated her husband's father was a basketball HC at some big name programs and moved 18 times during his coaching days. Some of his moves were due to moving up in the coaching ranks, but others were because he was fired.

I think what surprises me the most is how these young kids right out of high school are now being so blunt with these coaches because 20 years ago that would never have happen. Getting a scholarship at that time was a huge accomplishment. These days a scholarship really has little value because NIL has taken off and big money is now being thrown around.

Not sure what the issue is. Doing better to get promoted is a normal thing. It’s like if your friend flipped burgers a McDonald’s would be be mad if they set a goal to leave in a year?

Really surprising that they're not picking the school that gives them the greatest academic advantage.
