If you can't find anything in Fayetteville and are going to have a sober driver, I would stay at Embassy Suites in Rogers. Less than a 20 minute drive from the Stadium and there is quite a bit to do within walking distance of the hotel. My in-laws always stay there and its a nice one.

Are there cabs or buses if we do get put that far from the bars and campus?
Yes, there are cabs on Dickson that will take you anywhere, but if you have to call one go with Green Cab or Dynasty.

This will be my first trip to fayetteville and have no idea about the area. Anywhere I should avoid?
Is cost an issue? The rates will be significantly lower if you head up north to Bentonville or Rogers. Those places will have better shopping if that's what you group likes.
If you are more into the football atmosphere and drinking which I think you would be since it's your first trip, stay anywhere in Fayetteville.
Bring a lot of booze, because we goin' win.

The Bentonville/Rogers area is like the suburbs of any big city. Everything is new and shiny, shopping, restaurant chains, and quick access to the freeway. They have better shopping and more national chains than Fayetteville, but they have no soul...

You can just find a cab anytime on Dickson these days. Hardly a need to call, especially on game weekends.
There are a few hotels on the north side that are actually on the bike trail system, which goes all over the city, and you might even be able to do that if you're fit.

If you will check vacation rentals by owner.com don't know exact address there are people that rent their houses close to the stadium. It sounds expensive until you realize all 4 of you can stay in one within walking distance of stadium. Absolutely the best way to go.

If I were you guys i'd try to get a hotel room downtown if your into drinking and partying after the game. I forget what the big hotel on the square is but it's a solid place and not a bad walk to dickson through the square. If you want somewhere really interesting I suggest the Clarion, they have a little bar downstairs that is usually full of opposing fans on game weekends called Bobbisocks.
The real fun is on dickson though. It'll be a huge party after we win so i'd highly recommend coming and celebrating with us. Hell if you can find me on dickson after the game i'll buy the first round.

Be prepared to stay in the burbs (Springdale, Rogers, etc.). You won't find anything in town on a game weekend unless you totally luck out. And given you'll be decked out in mardi gras beads and dressed like a purple and gold circus clown, my guess is you'll not have much luck. Most in town rooms are reserved year in and year out and only become available at the last minute when one the regulars cancels.

There are no places to avoid, crime is retarded low around here. It's smart to book a room now because they will sell out soon, and Dickson is a small area.
Best advice!!!!

I'd stear clear of a couple hotels on College Ave. A few of those are sketchy as hell.

One other thing...if there is ice on the roads, be prepared to stay for a while because whether or not you have chains or studded tires,
You make it sound like we're in Montana here
How many cajuns do you think have chains anyway?

I booked at the red roof inn in fayetteville, I figure I can hike the mile to the stadium and them from there hit dickson after the game. Then catch a cab after having a few drinks.

Colombiamex is awesome. Grab a beer from the fridge, have some chorizo tacos and polish it off with a frozen coconut bar.
