That's right. 1978 Orange Bowl, bitch!

I remember that game. Kicked some butt! Holtz even suspended some players for that game, IIRC.

I'm not sure why LSU fans are so confident they'd beat the Georgia team. It's not like LSU and Les Miles has a history of playing well against other SEC teams in national championship game settings.

It's certainly hypothetical. Georgia was playing very well by the end of the season, meanwhile LSU was coming off late season losses.
I would have enjoyed watching a LSU - Georgia game in 07.

solid post. Also miles had a losing record against richt so it's not like there was some innate advantage there.

Confident because Georgia hasn't been worth a damn since they got embarrassed by West Virginia.

LSU would be 3-2 against them had they been best of six teams in 2007

Georgia couldn't even win their division against a garbage Tennessee team in 2007

The same team you barely beat, and they were playing like crap going into the seccg.

That was a tale of 2 seasons for both Uga and Lsu. When the seccg arrived, Uga was playing much better than lsu. No reasonable fb fan would have picked Lsu for that game.

I think you should put Texas vs Florida 2008. Texas got screwed out of it that year

a lot of great replies. I've seen a fair amount choose OU over Tennessee in 1985.

OU's defense was insanely good from 1985-1987, but somehow couldn't get past Miami. I guess it all depends on matchups at a particular time.

I picked OU vs Tennessee because OU lost to Miami early on, and Tennessee throttled Miami in the Sugar Bowl. UT's record was 9-1-2. So, they basically were either 11-1 or 9-3 in retrospect.

It's too bad Auburn and Miami never happened in 1983. That was a crazy finish anyways. Miami loses to Florida in first game; Auburn beats Florida and Georgia; Auburn's only loss was to an undefeated regular season Texas; Texas loses to Georgia in Cotton Bowl; Nebraska's only loss was to Miami in Orange Bowl because of the option to not play for a tie.

Ugly 9-7 win or not, Auburn's win over Michigan in Sugar Bowl should have been good enough to be national champs.

Florida was the best team in 1984. Too bad violations kept them out of a bowl late in the season. Being SEC Champs for several months before being stripped the following July is rather bush league. UF was 18-2-2 in 1984-1985. They were legitimate enough to have been back-to-back national champs had they not violated any rules.

Why 1994 A&M? They tied SMU.

If you're picking a probation team, use 1993 Auburn.
