And again, I ask all of you: how many years has team #4 shown they belong in the playoff and not get blown off the field by #1

12 teams is the way to go. Even Bama barely squeaked by a questionable Florida team .

Anything could happen in a wide open 12 team CFP.....

This year is the year that begs for an expanded playoff...

I think everyone should be in the playoffs. Start the year ranking everyone. This ranking could be a combination of lots of polls. Then have #1 play #13?. By about week 6 or so you would know who the top teams were. Then wait to the end of season to have the 2 playoff games and bowl games.

Now for the regular schedule, most teams know who they are going to play each year. You could develop schedules on the fly just like BYU did last year

12 would be ideal I think, but I don't like having byes so I say 16

You think an FCS tune up game is the equivalent of a 1 seed playing a 16 seed in a playoff?

You are the one that called the #1 seed playing a filler in a 16 team playoff. Are you now saying they will be playing a tough game? Make up your mind. Is it a filler or is it a tough game. Seriously. You think 2020 the #1 playing the #19 team is an exciting and riveting game people are going to tune it to?

I mean. During the regular season...maybe. Interesting. not exciting or riveting in the playoffs, though.

Exactly my point. We just went from no playoffs to 4 teams, to 12 teams to now 16.

We are turning big time college football in to Division III football. It doesn't get more exciting than that.

I am going to assume you are talking about the year the game was played in and not the season.

2015 is a legit, no blow out.
42-35

2018 was 24-6. Hardly a close game. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 24-6. Clemson was never close.

2019 was 45-34..31-10 halftime. Oklahoma scored with 1:45 seconds left in the game to pull within 11.

So the real answer would be once in 7 years. yet people think adding 8 more teams will give us better games and make things exciting?

There are two things that makes something valuable.

Rarity and demand. If 12 teams make the playoff, then it will no longer be a rare feat to make the playoffs.

If playoffs expand then yeah simply making it won't be as huge of a deal, but making it to the Final Four would be a way bigger achievement than it is now just simply getting selected

I was talking about needing to reduce the schedule down, so getting rid of the actual filler games in the regular season. I know its probably your nap time, but get some coffee or something before you post.

A playoff doesn't change the amount of trophies given out, it makes it harder to get one

I would be happy with 8. Each P5 champion and 3 at large.

Why? At best 1 maybe 2 actually deserve a shot each year. At most you need 3 teams. A play in when there is no clear cut top 2 then a title game.

It doesn't make it harder to get one. Do you really think someone was going to beat Alabama last season? or LSU the year before that?

However, it does reward mediocre teams for being mediocre. HOORAY!

Who was the last team ranked #7 or worst that you think had a legitimate chance to win a National Championship.

Yet that wouldn’t get the support of ND or the G5 conferences. And this has to be unanimous to change.

Actually a decent point. I can see that.

I understand this is far more about ESPN vs Fox and the Conferences wanting to have control than any of the discussion we have here about what would make the best matchups. I mean anyone that really thinks they sit around thinking about what would be the best thing for the fans vs the best way to make money and have control is a fool. Still, it's fun discussion.

Personally I find conversations about media contracts fun but I get your point.
