When he doesn't get the job they'll say the NCAA stopped it, not that he declined the offer because the aubie job sucks

He's playing Auburn to generate more interest.

Pearl's long-time assistant head coach (Tony Jones) is on a Sunday night TV call in show here in Knoxville during basketball season and he absolutely shite on the Auburn job this year when it came up a few times.
When people called in saying that Tennessee's win over Auburn a few weeks ago was a good step for the team, etc. he pretty much laughed. The two things I remember exactly were "A program like Tennessee should never lose to a program like Auburn," and "It would be tough for Coach K to win down there in that empty arena." I know T. Jones told people around town that the Clemson job was the one they thought they were going to get.
T. Jones is a clown, but he is a pretty good recruiter. Will be interesting to see if BP takes him with him.

It's amazing how different the Auburn job could be for different levels of coaches.
For true up and comers, I wouldn't touch it. You have to build it from scratch.
For someone like Pearl, Auburn could be better than lesser schools that have far better basketball programs. Pearl is the type of coach who overhauls a program just by being there (watch attendance if he comes). Plus he'll get automatic media credibility, which helps recruiting (see Saban).
I don't think the Auburn job is a good fit for everyone, but I think it would be a good situation for Pearl.

Ya don't say
They'd be stupid not to offer and make him say no, which I'm sure he will, but it will be the NCAA's fault

I don't think so, but admittedly if Auburn clears the hire it may help him with other schools considering it means his NCAA nemesis has signed off on him.

is it too late for Auburn to get Barbee back, since he's the only one that wanted that gig.

We heard you the first time you made this uninteresting and inaccurate point.

Tennessee was averaging 12K+ fans per game and he inherited a roster with an NBA PG in CJ Watson and the best 3 point shooter in the league (Chris Lofton) along with 2 top 50 signees and a roster with 4 other highly recruited players who had underachieved.
We picked between Pearl and Gregg Marshall that coaching search. There was quite a bit of interest. Probably the best situation for any of our recent coaching searches in any sport.

why are you counting this quote?

It's not a good fit for anyone. Coaches know which programs actually care about basketball, Auburn isn't one of them.

I sure hope he lands at Auburn. He will definitely light the flame of Auburn basketball. His presence at Auburn would also light the flame of another certain school, although with a different temperament.

That's why we just built a new arena.

And how many seats does your new arena have?
Have you ever sold it out?

Why does that matter? How many seats does Cameron Indoor have? What about ST Joes' high school Gym? It's still a really good basketball atmosphere when Auburn has a good team.

Because Slive put pressure on AU and OM, they had to.
