Well, I'm not excusing UF fans, but it was a long trip in the middle of the week after the holidays where people had probably already missed a lot of work. Had it been a friday through Monday game where people could have made it a long weekend trip, the attendance would have been much better. Also, it wasn't a compelling match up. I bet those UF fans are glad they saved their money now.

Looking back, the only thing that wasn't compelling about the matchup was Florida.

Being a weekend game is the biggest factor IMO

Myself and 6,999 others wished we had saved ours too.

Look, I understand why State didn't have a lot of fans in Florida (The trip by tractor would take FOREVER!) but there is simply no excuse for Florida's fans not making the trip to the Sugar Bowl. Not only is it within driving distance for a good portion of your fanbase, but it is also in New Orleans which is a good time in and of itself.

Everyone in New Orleans knew that Florida was not going to travel well long before they were invited to come. No one wanted them here, but the Sugar Bowl committee had no choice and had to.

The problem with Florida is that this was the 7th time they've been to the Sugar Bowl in the last 20 years. They also were just here 3 years ago playing another lack-luster team in Cincinnati. You add to it, playing on a Wednesday night and it just wasn't a desirable game for their fan base.

Very few bowl games have high attendance anymore. They are basically a made for ESPN program now-a-days.

I don't blame Florida fans one bit for not coming.

It's going to be a cold game this weekend. Looks to be mostly cloudy and a high of around 48. No sun for warmth.

Great job by our fans. I hate that I can't make it. The move to Dallas hurts.

My dad and brother are going though.

I bet the auto glass companies in the bham area are licking their lips hearing that many are sold, that equals lots of cars getting broken into in the parking lot

Probably. I'm sure most of our fans will gladly sacrifice a window after the two win season we had last year...

There are a lot of us taking charter buses for that specific reason.

As a Birmingham resident, this makes me happy. Hope none of y'all get your shite stolen.

On a side note, I wonder if Sal Sunseri will be at the game to watch his son, Tino. Anybody know? I know UT fans want him to DIAF, so you guys can just ignore this if you like.
