What the frick? Playing in the Chick-fila bowl...
-Right down the street in the ATL, more fans can go
-In ATL on New Year's Eve
-Game in primetime on ESPN
or
Drive/Fly 700 miles and play on New Year's morning at 10am cst while everybody's still recovering from their hangover from the night before.

I totally agree. I would gladly swap with UT on this one. I am going to have to drink 2 gallons of Bloody Marys to make it by kickoff

I guess being in the Outback would have put Kiffin in the middle of his prime recruiting area.

Outback is a shitty bowl IMO given the start time and being New Year's Day.
Not to mention Tampa.
I'm not too terribly fond of the Cap1 to tell the truth. I would rather not play New Year's Day, unless the game is in the evening.

The worst start time is the Cotton Bowl. Having to make it to the stadium at 8:00 a.m. after drinking all night in Dallas was rough.

Actually like the Tampa/St. Pete area, got relatives there, some cool restaraunts ect... The start time is the kicker

Cotton used to be bad, but it is actually one of the best day/kickoff times now.
Jan 2nd, 1pm... no longer a 10am kickoff on New Year's Day

In April 2008, Cotton Bowl Classic officials announced that in 2009 and 2010 the game would be moved from its traditional start time of 10 a.m. CST on January 1st to 1 p.m. CST on January 2nd.[4]

Au officials bought that bowl game becuase they got scared they were going to play Iowa State and have to face Chiziks old school and couldn't risk losing to them. truth!

This.
Plus the fact the Outback is supposed to take the #2 in the east not the bottom of the west. Oh well, the VA Tech game will be good though

I'm not complaining. That 11 EST time for the Outback is awful. And you're right I had to drink hella bloody marys to get me together enough for some tailgating

I have been to both twice in the past 10 yrs. and I can say without a doubt that I prefer the Peach Bowl to the Outback Bowl. Atlanta > Tampa, 7:30 NYE > 11:00 NYD.

I'd rather UT play in the Chick-Fil-A than the Outback.

Completely agree. You get 1000x more exposure playing in a primetime game than a fricking 11am kickoff when half the country is still passed out from the night before.

They were going to be matched with Iowa State and AU was so afraid of the possiblity of losing to them that AU said they would guarantee 40k ticket sales. Anyone else heard this?

Man you bama boys are really on the pulse of auburn football. I won't believe it until the sons of saban confirm this.

quote:Nothing says they have to take a team from the east. SEC bowl guidelines say that the Outback and Cotton have the next picks after the CapitalOne. The Outback has first dibs on an eastern division team and the Cotton has first dibs on a western division team. but they don't have to pick from those divisions.
Plus the fact the Outback is supposed to take the #2 in the east not the bottom of the west.
The only restriction is that if they want a team from the opposite division, they have to allow the other bowl to make their choice first.
Say if both bowl committees wanted Ole Miss, the Cotton would get them because the Cotton has first dibs on a western team. If both wanted Tenn then the Outback would get them. But as long as they aren't fighting over the same team, they can take whomever they want.

I'm happy with our bowl game. Much better than a boring-arse big 10 matchup.
Besides, there is always a fan or 2 in every fanbase who is unhappy about whatever is going on. So a big congrats for finding that out...
