Rook - excellent point. One consequence of the four team playoff is the bowls seeking out the best deals possible when not a playoff venue.

SEC - Big XII is a great match-up for future Sugar Bowls.

Maybe so. The Big XII has taken a major downgrade with the losses of A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska and to a lesser extent, Colorado. It's a very weak league overall. They really need to add 2 teams but will not be able to add quality teams that will improve the competitiveness of their league. With OU and Texas down, they're arguably the 5th best conference in terms of quality.

I would like to see more SEC/Pac 12 bowl match-ups, personally.

Money. OU fans will travel better to New Orleans than Oregon. That brings in $$$$$$!

Have you ever met an Oregon fan? I haven't. I'm sure you can find some real Duck fans in the Pacific Northwest, but elsewhere, the only Duck fans you are going to find are the lamest frontrunners imaginable.

In contrast, OU has some dedicated mouthbreathers who will make the trip to New Orleans just for the hell of it.

I wonder if your location in Texas has anything to do with that

go out west and those statements would be flip-flopped

Only 10 hour drive, and the BIG XII relationship with the Sugar Bowl.

The only way to get great matchups is to have the networks finance the bowls. They would care more about TV $$ and put together great matchups because ratings would make them a lot more money than ticket sales. This would help out little schools as well that may draw big ratings in a particular year if they are good, but wont sell as many tickets as a lower ranked, bigger program.

Well, of course. That's not the point. I asked if the rest of the board (mostly concentrated in the SE) knew any Oregon fans. So far, we've got one guy from Colorado who knows an actual Oregon alum.

Again why would there be a lot of Oregon fans in the SE? The vast majority of their fanbase is in the Pacific NW just like how the vast majority of OU fans are in North Texas and Oklahoma.

It's not like you would be able to find many OU fans on either the West or East Coast so why would there be many Oregon fans so far away from the school?

It isn't a debate whether there are more OU or Oregon alumni in Houston, TX, for example. It is OU hands down.

It is debatable as to which fan base travels stronger to New Orleans AND spends more money. The TV monies do nothing for economic impact for the City Of New Orleans, and the TV contracts have zero to do with the 2013 match-up.

If OU sells its allotment of Sugar Bowl tickets, I'll be surprised. I am also very curious to gauge Alabama's response to the Sugar Bowl. They had higher expectations.

If the Oregon fanbase response to the Alamo Bowl is lousy - in my opinion, it does not mean they would have had the same response to the Sugar Bowl.

There were so many Okies that migrated to California, they used to have a station that broadcast their games in Fresno.

Oregon is too much of a Johnny come lately to have a strong fan base spread across the country (and outside their home region) the way that Bama, OU, Texas, Ohio State, Nebraska, and perhaps a few others do. That's not to slight Oregon, just to point out the reality of the situation. Add to the fact that the Sugar Bowl is plausible as a driving trip from Oklahoma, and it's a no brainer. Maybe if this were the Orange Bowl, you could make a case for Oregon--I still think that any bowl not on the west coast would view OU as the stronger draw.

Let's just see how ticket sales go down in OK and in OR.

If Oregon has a stronger showing for the Alamo Bowl than OU for the Sugar Bowl that will speak volumes.

Since you're referencing OU on the radio, do you mind referencing the years and radio station. Talking Steinbeck, Grapes of Wrath and dust bowl is pretty damn funny for the SEC rant. I am having a tough time guessing if your closer to 20 years old or 90.
