...with a max of 5 for a sane person, how good is Mark Richt?

5 or 6. UGA plays down to opponents and occasionally turns in embarrassing performances, but they can look shockingly good at times. The irony is that their wild in-game inconsistency ends up leading to consistency in overall season results. 8-4 to 10-2, almost every single year.

Good at winning games he should win. Bad at winning games he needs to win.
He is a mediocre coach surrounded by elite talent. His only saving grace is he is an excellent motivator when it comes to rivalry games, which is why he is still employed at UGA

Call me insane then. By current standard, Ssban being 10, Mark is solid 7.

I would rate Coach Richt an 8. He has coached for a number of years at a major football power in the SEC and has some success.

Mark has a ceiling of a 7 or 8, but consistently has moments like a 3 or 4. He averages around 5 or 6 if you look at all his good and bad moments.

Interesting. Where would that put Les?

solid 7 that has reached a 9 once or twice and fallen to 3 or 4 a few times ... he's not ill mannered, which makes it very difficult to get rid of him ... georgia's in a tight spot with him, no doubt about it ...

Probably a hair higher. He has more success than Richt, so his ceiling his higher. He has done some dumb shite, but he doesn't often lose games he shouldn't and sometimes manages to win games he shouldn't.
Solid 7.5 for Les. He recruits well, gets solid coordinators, beats teams he is supposed to, and competes with the class of the CFB pretty regularly (even if he doesn't always win).

I'd say that he's a solid 7. He could be a 9 or a 10 if he'd go batshit crazy on the sidelines every now and then, like Saban.
Come to think of it, pretty much all of the ultra-successful NC winning HCs over the last 10-15 years have been pretty fiery. The relatively calm guys that have won NCs (Tressel, Coker, Mack Brown) had ridiculous talent that compensated for any deficiencies that each may have had.

Mostly agree. The most recent three seasons he would be below Mark.
