When you guys consider a name change you should include one that describes the team as a whole.

Something like "The Fighting Tampons"
Good for one period and no second string!

I so stole that.

We know. You are only the 47th poster to post that joke on this website. Bravo.

Seriously- this is dumb. What in the hell does a mannequin, a bear, or a "landshark" (WHATEVER THE HELL THAT IS) have to do with the Ole Miss "Rebels"????

Off of the top of my head, I can name the following mascots which have nothing to do with the name of their school's teams.

-The Stanford tree has nothing to do with "Cardinal"
-The Bird-hawk-thing has nothing to do with the Utah "Utes" (Utes are a native american tribe)
-The horse mascot guy only has a fleeting connection with the "Sooners" of Oklahoma
-Texas A&M's "Revellie" is a live collie which hardly represents an "Aggie"
-Iowa State's mascot is some kind of a bird, despite the team being named the "Cyclones"
-Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana don't even have mascots (something which I think Ole Miss should have done)
-What the frick is a "Hilltopper?" Western Kentucky doesn't seem to know, which is why Big Red represents them.
-Tennessee's Smokey is supposed to be a "Volunteer"... which may be somewhat accurate, because he's not getting paid.
-Alabama's Big Al is a fantastic example of a mascot without a direct connection to either the state or the name of the football team.
-Ramses the Ram is somehow a "TarHeel?"
-ETA: Tulane has a bird representing a Green Wave, as does Miami with a hurricane.

I could go on, and on, and on like this. When people say things like "what does this mascot have to do with anything" need to realize that such mascots aren't at all unusual. I literally listed a dozen just now off of the top of my head. There are certainly others out there.
