I don't think I would fit in with LSU fans. I don't love purple or live gold, for starters

You must have never been north of I-10
That's the dividing point. People from down there will even tell you that.

OM fans are for the most part uppity and pretend they're rich. Frat boy, Doctor, Lawyer types. Then the "sidewalk" fans are the most hillbilly racist fricks that know nothing about OM except they are the Rebels and thats why they like them.

State fans are generally you're average citizen, usually farmers, engineers, or business. Laid back and easy to get along with.

Southern Miss fans generally suck balls. To choose them would be a poor choice. So whichever category you fit in above, should be your pick. Or just stay an Arky fan and get along with whoever you meet

It's just an opinion I've only been to the Delta once and I must say I wasn't to fond of it. Also the Delta is by absolutely nothing, where as on the coast you have Gulfport/Biloxi and it's close to both Nola in LA and Mobile/Gulf Shores in AL.

Gulf Shores is where beaches start to get good, fishing is good all over the coast.

Don't get me wrong. The Delta sucks. I'm just saying it doesn't really suck less than the coast. They both suck about equally.

I would have to visit the Delta a little more to have a valid opinion.

I was not very impressed with the MS coast. The beaches are manmade and suck--there are no waves, I guess because of the barrier islands. The water is brown and ugly. There's really no reason to go to the beach unless you're a woman who wants to tan.

There's no centralized area for night life; all the casinos are spread out and it's kind of a pain in the arse to go from one bar to another. Ocean Springs was okay in this respect, but Biloxi and Gulfport were lame.

I was fresh out of college (the first time around) and there just weren't enough like-minded people my age around, or if there were, I never found them. Maybe if I had been there when I was ready to settle down with a family... nah it probably still would have sucked.

The best thing the area had going for it was proximity to NOLA and to actually good beaches in Florida, and food. The food was really good. It had influences from New Orleans, south Louisiana, southern culture in general, and of course it had access to fresh seafood.

It wasn't a terrible place to be for the time that I was there, but it's not a place I would ever settle long-term. I'm sure it's perfect for some people, but not for me. However, if I had to pick somewhere in MS, I'd probably pick the coast.

Pretty accurate.

As meh as the coast is there is more "stuff" to do. There's essentially more going on than Jackson or Memphis burbs. It's a melting pot as well - all sorts of people.

The proximity to NOLA and Gulf Shores/Panhandle is also a nice feature.

It's pretty self explanatory. Coast people are more trashy. It's very evident your freshman year of college, or just when you go to the coast. There might be poor parts of MS but the coast is the trashy part. At the same time, it's one of the nicer parts.

GFY most Delta folk are good, classy people. Some of the nicest you'll meet in the country

I was impressed with the beach in Gulfport

ETA: "manmade beaches" = jobs to a civil engineer

I'll admit I was joking on the first part but what about the 2nd part isn't true? Most State grads go into farming, business, or engineering.

In my experience most Mississippi people are good, honestly that's why I like the state compared to most. I just don't get why everyone from Mississippi call the coast trash, they are good people as well and there is a hell of a lot more stuff to do down there.

I'm laughing at the fact that you played up the State as average Joes and Ole Miss as uppity snobs. I find stereotypes amusing.

Think 1920s. Small towns, mostly older buildings. Very little urban development. Rich white families living in large nice houses and lots of poor black people living in shotgun houses. Lots of cotton fields and catfish ponds. Still pretty much segregated also

It doesn't lack culture, thats for sure.

+1. Southern Miss is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously

They exist for a reason, mostly because they are usually true regardless if anyone will actually admit it.

I have seen and heard that parts of Mississippi are clannish (not that type of klan) but it largely goes city by city. Any advice on this front?
