we beat some FCS teams, Arky, and Vandy. Luke literally made zero difference as a HC.

How many Ole Miss games have you watched during Luke's tenure? Honest question.

First off, was Matt Luke even HC in 2017?
He was an interim but it doesn't matter. He fielded the team and proceeded to piss away generational offensive talent. It's funny witnessing other schools with these takes on Luke when the fact of the matter is that he was a subpar OL coach who should've never been retained in the first place.

Firing Luke was the only move Ole Miss could've made to save the program. Trotting him out there ensured 20k at the home opener and only prolonging the inevitable of another 3-4 win season. I'm fricking elated about the possibility of Mike Norvell.

Look, tell yourself what ever you want right now.

Objective/outside-looking-in, y’all had potential to turn a corner next year with Luke + there’s no sexy hire out there right now.

Things can always get worse. Ask Tennessee. You are Ole Miss. Hence, the “delusional” piece in title.

Enh.

I have become a firm believer if you think the head coach is not the guy to get the job done then you need to let him go. Letting him linger around the program like a fart in an elevator does no one any good.

Luke was not the "guy" and he never was going to be the "guy". He took the fall when Ole Miss got hit with sanctions and kept the team vaguely competitive. To his credit he did the best he could in a bad situation but he showed no signs of building Ole Miss into a team that could contend for the West again.

There is nothing wrong with hiring a coach to soak up a painful few years of sanctions and rebuilding. Shula at Alabama is prime example of someone doing a fine job in a horrible situation and setting the table for someone else to come in and do great.

Luke did his job and was well paid to do it.

I do, however, think he would have been back for one more year if they had beat State. The Ole Miss Piss did him in.

6-6, 5-7, 4-8

Empty stadium.

Donations drying up.

Piss Miss-players have no respect for head coach.

Luke had to go.

Bad troll job is bad and unoriginal.

The fear is strong in the SEC West.

Here's some notables on the schedule for next year

Baylor
Auburn
@LSU
Bama
Florida
@A&M

and that's just through mid October. There's also the possibility of losing @Arkansas, @Vandy, and Miss State. Either way, Ole Miss is staring 3-9/4-8 in the teeth. They had to make this move. They weren't turning a corner

You guys are fans, so I’m gonna yield to your opinions on Luke for now.

But just letting you know how it looks to everyone else. I watch a lot of SEC football, over the past 2 years probably 6 or 7 Ole Miss games (all the ones against decent teams, egg bowls, Bama, marquee non conference, anything with potential SECW implications)

People probably said that last year and the year before. There's always the next group of coaches. Good coaches don't have to be "sexy" hires. Was Matt Campbell a "sexy" hire when he took the ISU job?

^^ This^^^

Same reason Odom got canned. A drop in season ticket sales means millions in lost revenue $ for the school and for Oxford. It's the AD's job to manage that problem.
Matt Luke was never a Head Coach, much less a lifer. Probably smart to cut this thing off now, instead of waiting for a historically bad season

Ole Miss' AD has made a serious mistake with this move. I'm really disappointed that they decided to do this. Luke deserved another year.

Said it on the coaching changes board and I'll type it again now. This is going to cause some bad JuJu to happen to Ole Miss and I hate it for them.

40 players? Approximately? Did you count?

Approximately 40 players walked out of the ADs announcement meeting as soon as he started speaking:

One would assume that any coach looking at Ole Miss would take that into consideration, would they not?

No coach wants to go into a situation where they are hated by the team from day one. Or do they not care, since those aren't "their" players?

If any of that makes sense.

I don’t think he’s trolling.

Ole Miss played LSU tough, and a lot of LSU fans saw that as a sign Luke was about to turn a corner.

Right or wrong, I think most of the LSU fans questioning the decision to fire him are being sincere, even if only out of ignorance.

I understand that, but the facts don’t lie. Would LSU accept 6-6, 5-7 and 4-8?
