Stupid fool. Make sure and read your article that's been debunked by multiple reporters. Memphis is very unique when it comes to crime when comparing it to the likes of Detroit, Cleveland, Oakland, etc.

quote:

He said he believes much of the crime is the product of our poverty rate, which is just under 28%. "I'm one of them, because I don't have a job. I'm a convicted felon too," he said. Adams said helping ex-cons reenter society is critical to crime prevention, but he is also critical of the FBI's ranking system. "Less than a third of the cities use the reporting method that we do in Tennessee," he said. We use a system called NIBERS. Most of the country however uses the Uniform Crime Reporting method or UCR. "The difference is under the UCR, if there's a crime incident, it's only reported as one crime. Under NIBERS, they're all reported separately," Adams said. The FBI's ranking was also based on 2013 numbers. It reported there were 124 murders, 7,200 aggravated assault, 366 arsons and more than 40,000 property crimes. Comparing 2012 to 2013, it showed violent crime went down by more than 4%. Murders went up by 7%, but aggravated assaults and rapes were down. Adam said since 2006, the city's made great improvements. "Violent crime is down almost 13%," he said.

Any big city is dangerous if you're stupid enough. You'll be fine, OP. I agree with the recommendation for Central BBQ btw. To try to get back on topic

Listen, I am glad you defend your home. It's reasonable that "Memphians" question the accuracy of FBI studies and WorldAtlas raw stats (both of which have no hidden agenda). I get it.

But just because others don't question raw stats doesn't means that we are fools. Just let it go and remain content to live where you live. It is your prerogative

This is my point exactly. You think you and the city you live in are better than Memphis and the residents therein.

Calling Memphis trash serves no purpose other than to make you feel better about yourself. Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours shine any brighter.

Maybe you didn't read the conversation?. I said nothing, nothing until your fellow Memphian said that those who talked bad about Memphis were stupid hicks who never left the farm.

Then I said something.

Seems you need to rethink your position regarding me. Seems to me that you both are looking pretty stupid

I recommend Payne's for phenomenal bbq. Rendezvous is traditional Memphis style bbq and it's great too (my favorite type). Although some Memphians trash talk Rendezvous because they like super sweet candy-like bbq.

Why it's the same advice I give for friends not from La. that want to visit NOLA. It's the same advice I heed in any major US city as a matter of fact.

It's so funny to listen to how silly people are when discussing Memphis, Tn on this board. It's almost as if everyone on here was born on a county road on a farm or something.

Why? Memphis is a shithole of a city

Seems like I don't need to rethink anything, you're exactly what I thought you were. A douche

ETA (again): You clicked on a thread about Memphis just to call Memphis a shithole and say you liked Nashville better.

Central is good. Cooper-Young area is neat. Beale is worth it once just to say you went much like Bourbon St., though I definitely prefer other areas. Mostly, Memphis to me is like getting all the crime of New Olreans with 1/10 the stuff to do.

That being said, neither one of them are nearly as dangerous as people make them out to be if you just spend five minutes getting to know about them online and don't do stupid stuff while you're visiting. I've bar hopped plenty in both alone and have suffered nothing more than the occasional hangover.

You say that, but it's not true. Study the facts and you will see, Memphis actually has a wide variety of violence in many areas. Hence the reason it's per captia is so high over a large area. It's not to down Memphis, it's just one of those it is what it is. I enjoyed my time in Memphis however, I was cautious as well.

Shelby County is OVERRUN with crime. I promise you. It rates VERY HIGH in every single criminal category known to man.

I'm sure. You think NOLA doesn't?You go to the French Quarter you better stay within a block are so of Bourbon and Canal and don't cross 90 unless you are in a car. How about Houston? I listen to news every day here and there are shootings all over the city. How about New York? I've been there I wouldn't venture to far away from times square are get caught on the subway late at night.

Crime in New Orleans is at around a 50 year low if I recall as far as violent crime. Still not safe by any means, but it isn't Memphis.
