I'm a student at ole miss, not a fan of their sports teams however. I can tell you with certainty that these guys are walkin on pins and needles when it comes to racial issues here. It's rather sad to see the unwarranted guilt. It never ceases to amaze me how the actions of a few fools can effect an entire campus' emotional security. Race is a non issue at this campus for the students but you can feel the power structures desperation to MAKE it an issue. Dont fall for the media troll. That's all i got on that.

Reason is the media jumps down our throats every time it happens. WE know how our campus is. But we also know the moment ANYTHING happens on our campus that is in any way racial, it spreads like fricking wildfire, is covered by all national media (and even ESPN, even if they have no connection to sports at all).

And the sad part is a large portion of the recent news that has been against our school has come from our own student newspaper's sensationalism (see the "riots" and the football team play incident). They printed these stories, national media picked them up and ran with it, and the daily Mississippian afterwards had to say that these stories weren't true. But the national media ignores this fact.

It's just tough to not be on pins and needles when no matter how hard you try, you won't ever get out of the shadow of history.

Couldn't agree more. I graduated in 2011, and the perception that there is any inkling of a race issue vs. the reality that there isn't really annoyed me. So sad when people want to stir the pot and there simply isn't anything there.

Eta: Good lord - butchered that paragraph the first time around via iPhone.

Like i said its all stirred up by the power structure, including that of the college. They're dead set on appeasement and apologetics. The overwhelming majority of the students dont give a single Frick about race. The admin is terrified of national perception. Personally as someone of a younger generation im sick and tired of the older generation reminding us that people have different skin colors.....we don't care, evidently you still do. Move on.
