The Alabama games in 2012 and 2014 are black marks on his resume, among others.

Congrats on the grab. A&M will be legit now, no doubt.

Hopefully. Honestly, we're a school that is still in the process of throwing everything including the kitchen sink into becoming a stable cfb contender, not an also-ran every 8 years or so. Takes time and patience (which is a tall order this day and age) to get to the plane LSU and Bama and others have enjoyed recently, but if anything underscored our willingness to do it the right way, it was the SEC move. Our school is too football-crazy for us not to do everything we can to be relevant.

Yeah, we don't need him to bring back the Wrecking Crew. That's not even really possible in the modern era of cfb, and misses the point. We just need an average defense. One that doesn't force our offense to HAVE to score every drive in order to stay in ball games. Give our Manziel teams a middle of the road defense, and we likely win a natty in that stretch.

It's all about fit. Hopefully he'll be a good one for TAMU (assuming the deal gets finalized).

And y'all will get another good DC, of that I'm certain

I've seen the episode of "good, Chief needs to leave! He sucks a-hole!", and it didn't end well the last time.

I agree with 2/3rds of your post. LSU isn't in "serious trouble" yet.

No sugar coating this. I am going to be honest. A&M got a great Defensive Coordinator who will stabilize their defense so the offense can do its thing. A&M is a 10 win team now on average. LSU drops to a 7-8 win team on average - depending on who they hire. There is no doubt about it. LSU is in massive decline at this point. Yesterday was a complete embarrassment. Talking with LSU fans, though, no one is really that upset. Many just don't care anymore. We have seen this over and over and have seen it coming. The game has passed Miles by and there is no point getting upset about it. It was a good 15 year run and now things have to reset. I say all of this because I hate the sunshine pumping or changing reality to argue with other SEC fans. It is what it is and it is obvious. LSU can turn things around next year IF: 1) Hire a great DC 2) Stabilize recruiting 3) Brandon Harris makes the progression to decent starting SEC QB. 4) LSU does not have another mass exodus of juniors. All of that is possible and LSU COULD STILL compete for the West next year. Before yesterday, there was a possibility of LSU returning 20 of 22 starters. So, the ship can be righted for another run. BUT, things look horrible right now. We'll see.

count me in the 'don't care anymore' crowd

LSU football is not dead to me but it's gone the way of the MLB and NFL (fantasy football notwithstanding)

chavis is a great hire for TAMU but the book on chavis is he needs really good talent to make his defense work. outside of garrett, they have no one. could be a rough couple of years until those recruiting classes pan out.

hope les makes a good hire but i hardly give a shite anymore

And as a life long LSU fan I hope these band wagon fans leave the program in droves and take their booing, leaving at halftime and their constant negativity with them.

The TCU DC looks really good right now.

Chavis is great, with great talent. Otherwise not so much.

I disagree

I think he's another Kirby Smart, overrated and with out the Studs LSU has recruited, he will struggle.

Kirby Smart is not a great DC, with out Sabans recruits.

i would def be overjoyed if i was (thank god every day im not) an aggie

he is a name, and a big name. most importantly a good coach

every coach needs good players to have success but chavis' scheme is so basic that average talent makes it a glorified 'bend-but-don't-break' you have personnell like LSU did in 2010-2011 and its going to be elite

his recruiting is, indeed, underrated. he doesnt go off campus much if at all but his on campus bagman ability is clutch especially with the defensive recruits.

its a really good hire for them, and gives LSU a chance to get back to its attacking style roots on that side the ball.

practice probably just got a lot more unfun for the TAMU offense given how chavis' Ds have played them over the years

Funny most Aggies don't even know who Mercer is and surely don't "thank god every day that their not a mercer rabbit" or whatever your mascot is!

Do we need to pay rent for the space that we occupy rent free in your brain?
