He desperately wanted bigger backs and went hard after Trent Richardson. He just couldn't land them.
Those are the only backs on campus now excluding Walk-ons. We only landed one last year because of all the BS with Charlie Weis I would guess.
I have no idea what the spread would do with a bigger back. I doubt it would be as effective. You really need someone that can cut on a dime and get to the outside or the open hole quick.
I'm not sure which version of the spread he's running. I don't pay attention to him at OSU. I can't even tell you who the turkey neck hired to run the offense.
Story was a project from day one not a stud. He played QB mostly in HS.
Our roster went down to 62 last year. There's just no depth yet. We'll get there next year I do believe.

All the message now is to spread out the D so the offense has to only be man beaters for big gains.
He hired Iowa State's OC.
OSU will always have bigger backs (I hope) because you have to have a guy who can pick up 3rd and 1

Well, that was his goal at UF and Utah. It worked for a while. The Defenses in the SEC adjusted nicely and he didn't.
I think he'll do fine in the Big 10 but I'm not willing to get into the Big 10/SEC differences argument.
OSU can always find a big back in Ohio since you are the only big game in the state. He didn't have that luxury in FL.
I just hope his FL HS pipeline has dried up dramatically.

Just because Reed didn't come in as a TE doesnt mean he isnt an "established" TE. He had good stats last year and should only do better this year. Also, I think Kent Taylor can contribute in a 2TE set. I dont think both freshman TE's will get a redshirt.
Yes, UF doesn't have the receivers it used to have, but that just happens. Debose and Dunbar could shine (I'll never trust Hammond or his hipster glasses)
Gillislee seems able to carry the ball well.
I just don't think you should discount the team as much as you have here.

Gilislee is injury prone. We should expect him to be out or limited at some point this year. He's not going to run over anyone as he's still holding at 210 pounds.
Dunbar has been challenged and he apparently cowered away. Debose is just a deep threat. I'm not sure who goes over the middle other than Reed. I'm hopeing Patton and Raphael and give us some good production as well.
Reed is not reliable IMO. He's also injury prone and likes to jump to catch balls when he doesn't have to do so.
Kent is going to redshirt as he's still listed at 6'5" 210-220lbs I think. He's still skinny. Colin is hurt and we've converted to DEs to TE.
My point is that we don't have good skill position players like UF should have and depth is non-existent. Pease doesn't have much to work with.
Having said that, everywhere but QB he should have as good or better players than he had at Boise so I'm hopeful.
I need to see if first after these last couple of years of craptastic offense.

QB is UF's only real problem IMO.
Plenty of servicable skill position players. The experienced Oline will make them look better than they are. Add in a certain top 10 defense, potentially a top 5 defense in the nation and UF will give UGA a run for their money in the East this year.

I don't think he will be redshirted. Yes, he is too small for TE, but he can run, he is big and he can catch, so I think he will play some WR for us this year, possibly the slot.

Not hard enough. There's countless bigger RB's every year. Now, not all of them will be rated highly on Rivals, but they're there.

Is it already confirmed that Matt Jones will be redshirted?

Who? Other than Debose we don't have anyone that scares the opponent. Just a bunch of meh.

The same Oline that couldn't block you or I last year???
I'm just really skeptical until I see it. I'm tired of hearing about how improved we are going to be. We need to do something on the field.
With depth lacking and our limited number of scholarship players I'm just not sold yet.
Barring injuries to the front 7 and if our young DBs stop getting PI penalties our D could be pretty darn good again this year. However, Powell is still out and Easley is still recovering from his surgery. I have to be shown again here.

This makes me happy thinking about Sept 8!

Matt Jones will play. He's already 230lbs at 6'2". He's big enough. He just needs to learn the offense and how to play in the SEC.

Meh, you guys have your own issues.
New offensive systems don't usually fare well in year one and add in good defense and I'm not too concerned about Aggie.
It wouldn't shock me if we lose on the road though.
Thanks Slive.

It is interesting that a school that recruits as ridiculously well as Florida does wouldn't have many established stars at the skill positions. Will be a fun team to watch this year with so many unknowns.

Well, until this year we haven't been recruiting well at all for WR, RB and TE.
That's not entirely fair. We didn't recruit the top 2 highest rated TEs last year but they are just true FR and I rarely count on them. One of them is even having a screw put in his foot this week.
Frick the injury bug.

Easier than recruiting to Florida? Are you serious?

It is a new offense for A&M. Two things though:
The new offense is far simpler than the old one. Essentially there are only a handful of plays run over and over with multiple options. Its not that hard to learn, especially compared to Sherman's pro style offense that looked like a phone book.
A&M has all the athletes in place to run the system and run it well. A fantastic OL that is the strength of the team. Quality WR's including the guy who set the school record for receptions last year. Multiple quality RB's that can pound it, slash, block, or catch the ball out of the backfield. Two good TE's that can block or catch.
A&M effectively has 2 question marks. Defensive depth, especially up front (1st Team is solid, 2nd Team is ok, 3rd team is ). They also have a RS Fish at QB that has looked great in practice but has never played a live snap of FBS Football much less SEC Football.
From what is being said though, Florida will have some real problems offensively that will likely lead to turnovers and 3 and outs all too often and will likely have trouble wearing down our defense because of that. Having an insane atmosphere at Kyle for the 1st ever SEC game also isn't ideal for a couple of shaky QB's. That means more chances for our offense to make plays and even though Florida has a stout D it will be very hard to keep our offense from putting points on the board. A&M is simply too aggressive offensively with too much speed to shut down though they can be slowed.
It's far from a gimme but I feel good about A&M's chances, honestly better than the Arkansas or Auburn games.
