Kelly's recruiting efforts are going all out in southern states. All nine assistants now recruit in the state of Florida. Currently 11 players from Florida and 8 from Texas are on the team. The article also states that he wants to begin a series with Georgia to improve his recruiting in the south.

Florida and Texas have plenty of players to feed other schools. I think the biggest impact will be some of the better players from the Carolina's going to ND versus staying at home to play.

I think it's best not to let Notre Dame play in the deep south and let them pick off a player or two, especially a defensive lineman. F U Justin Tuck!

Notre Dame is likely the school in the best position to get players nationwide. They have a really good coach but they need to distance themselves from that spittle machine on ESPN.

I think they need to be able to beat Kentucky before they can play UGA

I've seen RUMORS (and they are just that at this point) that ND and UGA would play in the new GA Dome when it opens, I think in '15 or '16.

I guess they figure everyone else is raiding GA for recruits, why not them.

SCar and Florida would've beaten them last year as well.

Maybe Ole Miss, with how well they progressed at the end of the season. Probably not, but...they'd kept it close.

I would imagine they would only be rumors given that the new stadium won't open until 2017 (unless they want to play in a construction site).

Yea, lets get our arse handed to us again vs the SEC, but this time in their backyard for all the recruits to see!

Aren't they gonna start playin' 5 ACC teams a year in '15 anyway?? That'll put them in Miami, Tallahassee, Atlanta, Clemson, Chapel Hill etc. regularly anyway. No need to play UGA to get exposure in the South...

The article says the following -

quote:

"If we're all in, we're all in," he said. "If we're at the big boy poker table and we're all in and we know we're going to have to play this kind of schedule, who are we fooling? We have to go in with our eyes wide open and recruit those areas and play those teams, and somebody's got to try to beat the SEC schools. My feeling was let's go attack this and build the program the right way and recruit in these areas."

quote:

Kelly even mentioned recently that he'd like to start a series with Georgia, which he acknowledged was for recruiting reasons.

I know when Mike McGee was here he practically begged ND to start another series with us and they refused. Holtz himself tried to arrange it and they would not even consider it at the time.

Notre Damn has always recruited SC heavily but they have not had much luck in years - probably not since Tony Rice.

I wish we could get ND back on the schedule ... but it has just as much chance of backfiring on them as it does working in their favor.

Gary Gray and Everett Golson come to mind, but Gray was a bust. Still that's only 2 in many years.
