Teams like Ole Miss and Missouri get in now and get a shot to knock a Michigan, Bama, or Ohio State out of the way.

Usually 4 is plenty. But now with more parity due to NIL, 8 is fine. >8 is too much and not necessary but it will bring in more money I suppose. Either way, I can't wait to see how it plays out. Should be fun come December.

I expect them to be this season. Ohio state added the best safety in CFB and multiple other legit players and Michigan just won a natty.

I don't like how they're doing the byes...and I also thought 8 would have been best.
There is no doubt it's devalued the regular season. A 2 loss SEC team is almost guaranteed a spot...in the past you'd need chaos to get in with 2 losses. So big games are still big...just not as important unless you've dropped a couple early already.

So the NFL, MLB, and every other professional sport has it wrong?
Losing once doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of winning.
Bama got lucky to get a rematch with LSU in 2011 and we whooped their arse. Off your logic, Bama wasn’t the better team cause we lost in the regular season.

The best teams win when it matters. If a team goes undefeated regular season then loses in the playoffs then they weren’t the best team because they couldn’t get it done when it counted.

It will. But it will also price the majority of fans out of attending more than a game or two. A team that doesn’t get one of the four byes would play in 4 playoff games if they reach the championship game. Regardless of matchups or locations, I would expect ticket and travel costs to be well north of $5,000 to attend all the games. Well north of there. How many fans will be willing to spend $5,000-10,000; per person; to attend all their games? How many can afford it?
I am afraid the national championship game will become like the super bowl, a spectacle that is primarily financed and attended by corporations and not real fans.

12 is too many imo. But it's hard to complain about an increase in more meaningful games

What they do works for their individual scenario. CFB has 12 games not 162, dont' be dense. They are also PROFESSIONAL leagues where many teams are very evently matched.

My logic? 4 is the perfect amount of playoff teams, MAYBE 6. Bama and LSU would still play in either scenario. Perhaps you need some logic of your own.

I agree.
Top 8 with a combination of P4/P5 conference champs and at-larges.
Top 4 teams get a home quarterfinal home game on NYE and NYD. This round would be fricking amazing.
Remaining 4 teams use current 4 team playoff format with rotating locations.
It is perfect.

This will continue to happen across all sports as salaries and TV contracts keep exploding. As long as fans continue to watch and attend games, nothing will change.
