Nationally it's pretty meaningless, but people from the State of MS care a lot about the Golden Egg.
That's my biggest beef with the Egg Bowl - it hasn't had any significant SEC/National implications since 2003 (which turned out to not have any thanx to LSU beating Arky the next day), and hasn't been much of a factor in the grand scheme of things in recent memory.

Yeah I wish...just one year...that the Egg Bowl would be the determination of the West. It would be a fun week/weekend for sure. But that won't happen anytime soon. Hell...I would be happy if the game went back to bowl determination for both teams...like in the 90s. Those were fun times.
