Doesn't get the respect he deserves and Arkansas is still feeling the effects for the way they treated him on his way out. He was a coach ahead of his time in the SWC and SEC.

Um,Nolan basically gave Arkansas and Broyles the Italian Salute and a choice verb and pronoun. Nolan dug his own grave.

He should have been allowed to go out on his own terms

There are some Hog fans that forget what an arse he was on his way out. Dude got PAID for years after.... he'll be fine and we will eventually.

ETA: But he was the man in the 90s

I hate the racism card Nolan pulled out every year. I hate that most of the time his rhetoric was indistinguishable from that of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Nolan painted himself more of a racist than anyone he could possibly complain about. I could go on and on.

But at the end of the day, when you look at all Houston Nutt didn't accomplish, how high he was paid, and all that he was allowed to get away with, it only adds to the validity of Nolan's complaints the University of Arkansas Administration was a good ole' boy network with standards that weren't applied to everyone.

Nolan can come back and take Pelph's job whenever he wants and that would be fine by me.

A lot of our fans can empathize with the stress we believe Nolan was going through with the former administration. He's a great guy in my opinion, and I didn't initially feel that way about him at the time he was fired. I would welcome him back.

If Pelph fails...Bring him on!

This is another thing that fans outside of Arkansas don't get.

One thing that chapped Nolan's arse is that he was the fricking man. He had built one of the best basketball programs in the country.

Then, Houston Nutt and his band of douchebags come in, and despite winning NOTHING, gets a raise and gets paid more, in addition to getting there every wish granted from the administration.

At the same time, Nolan is catching heat from said administration (Broyles), because they were racists, despite the fact he had won a national championship less then five years before, AND been back to the championship game and a sweet sixteen since then.

Nolan was pissed. Rightfully so. He handled it wrong, but I'll never like a coach as much as I did Nolan. And that's one reason I resent Nutt as much as I do today.

Nolan's beef was with Broyles and not the fanbase...

Nolan was the biggest racist in all of sports (John Thompson at Georgetown rivaled him, though). He could get a lot out of his players and was a good coach - not a good person though.

you can thank frank broyles for that.

Houston Nutt gets extension, Stan heath gets fired. Similar Record(s)

Frank hates black people.

Nolan was and is a great person in real life very down to earth and a real people person. 10000 percent complete opposite of what he portrayed in the media. Anyone who has ever met Nolan or any of his players will tell you the same thing......

Would love to see Mike Anderson come back if Pel can't right the ship.

Nolan even vaguely referenced Nutt's different treatment. Something along the lines of "they over there don't win anything, and they get raises and extensions. I don't. What does that tell you about me? That I'm different".

Nolan hated Broyles, and after a few years, everybody understood why. He could have handled it better, but whatever.

He didn't hate Fayetteville or the people, though. The guy is a millionaire and he still lives here.

Nolan was the best basketball coach Arkansas have ever had. Broyles did Nolan wrong and we are suffering from it now. Look at our basketball team, THEY SUCK!!! How can our basketball team win with a coach that looks like he haven't went through puberty?

Damnit, you guys are putting me in a very difficult situation by defending Hootie.

Houston made more b/c he was the football coach. Football is the first sport in Arkansas and more importantly, Houston got more money than Nolan b/c football generated tons more revenue than basketball ever could.

THAT, is why Nolan didn't make more $$$ than Hootie. Football pays for the athletic program at Arkansas and most other schools.

Secnd, Nolan wasn't winning after 97. He simply wasn't. He retired on the job. Nolan was great in the late 80s and early 90s, but we sucked at the end, he lost his edge. The other teams also caught onto his style of play and we were not running other teams out of the gym anymore. The game passed him. Nolan also quit recruiting well, he would get a good player here and there but were never going back to the summit under him.

Mike Anderson didn't get the job b/c of two reasons.
First, his mentor Nolan shite where they eat. Fans were sick and tired of Nolans comments and he wasn't winning anymore. Nolan gets fired, doesn't take it gracefully and tries to force Mike onto the UofA. Yeah, that will work.

Second, there was a perception that Mike was already running the program, and wasn't doing too good at it. I think this was true and he actually went through his growing pains here and not at UAB.

Don't get me wrong, I like Nolan but he made his bed and got to sleep in it. Things have turned out good for Mike too. I know a lot of fans want Mike back, but bringing Mike back is not going to take us back to Final Fours again IMO, at least not right away. The basketball program is in shambles and the first thing it needs now is strong administration and more good kids. I would bet a nickle to a dollar that the basketball program loses money this year.
