Upvote. Not for the dying Dolphin but the other part.

Yeah man, frick bringing attention to a debilitating disease whose research is severely underfunded due to the fact that so few people have it making funding research unprofitable.

Wow. That's impressive. I did not know that.

ETA: SEC NOW just said $15.6 million has been raised.

Feel free to watch this TED talk that explains why a lot of the money in charities does not go to research.

Would you rather have a charity:
-raise $1000 a year
-spend $800 on research
-spend $200 overhead.

OR

-raise $1000 one year
-spend $300 on research
-spend $500 on advertising/fundraising
-spend $200 overhead
-raise $5000 the following year

Watch the video and change the way you think about charities. Don't try to give a bigger piece of the pie to research, try to make the pie bigger.

CharityWatch-- an independent nonprofit that requests financial documents from charities and analyzes what portion of donations go to the cause versus administrative overhead-- gives the ALS Association a favorable rating. I'd be interested in hearing the news story you're talking about.

Because it's attention whory? Who cares? Attention whores will always find a way to be attention whose. Kudos for it coincidentally getting SOME attention to ALS in the process. I don't get why people get so mad about this kind of stuff.

And either way, it's not like raising awareness about a disease is a bad thing because of what a charity is allegedly doing.

Why is the ice bucket challenge so bad? Has it hurt any of you complaining about it? It's a good way to raise awareness for a terrible disease. Do you know anyone who had this disease? Well, I do. And it's about the most horrible thing you can have happen to you. But by all means go on and bitch about it, because I swear some of you have nothing better to do than to complain about any and everything.

My uncle died of ALS last year, so I'm by no means unaware of it. I personally think that me lending him my bass boat that he used nearly every day of the last 4 years of his life would be way more honorable in his eyes than doing like these attention whores who do this shite and line a bunch of pockets, but that of course is my opinion.

I'm not saying this movement is bad necessarily, but if you do the "challenge" I do view you as a dumbass. Just donate money and shut the frick up like a normal person.
