I had not seen the gifs of some of those questionable hits before - did Fairley not get flagged?
He was flagged on the hit in the back. I don't remember about the others. I think when he drove Murray into the ground he was not. At the time it was a legal hit. I am pretty sure he was NOT flagged when he went into Murray's knee. I am mixed about that one. It appeared as if Fairley was being blocked and was going down into the ground and MIGHT have gone into the knee as a result of the block...but it is really hard to tell. It was a nasty hit, though.

Sooooo....ending the streak is considered an accomplishment by Auburn?
Underachieving every year? Losing SEC Championship Games? Shitting the bed against Auburn?

There has never been a bigger lie written on the internet than this.
What part is a lie? There was a thread about Auburn being considered the #3 dirtiest athletic department in the nation. And they did get beat and stopped the streak. So....which part do you consider a lie?

ALMOST anything. I would do less than some others.
MUCH less than some.

Hey...y'all said it was an accomplishment. I just thought it odd that it would be considered such. I am only guessing that whoever said that meant making it to the National Championship game and not losing it...but it sure was worded funny.

Why do Georgia fans have such a problem with Fairley? Hines Ward was repeatedly voted the dirtiest player in the NFL by his peers and most Georgia fans love him
Hines Ward also blew out Jimmy Brumbaughs knee with malice aforethought too.
Prior to that, Jimmy had great prospects of an NFL career.
After that? A little Arena League and right to coaching.
When it comes to dirty, Hines Ward has no fricking equal.

I'll leave it to you, Mr. Football Expert, to figure out how a defensive end's KNEE "collides" with the HELMET of a wide receiver. And also to explain how it could be "payback" when it was on THE FIRST PLAY.
Jake Scott... Eddie Weaver... Hines Ward... Boss Bailey... Thomas Davis... its almost as if these dirty as frick players never played for UGA!

Someone else mentioned this earlier and was asked to provide a link.....I have looked for the information and can't find it. Can you provide some kind of mention about this happening? I don't remember it happening, but that doesn't mean it didn't. If it happened more than 5 minutes ago, I don't remember.

IIRC, Hines broke more than one persons jaw. That doesn't just happen from a clean hit. UGA has had their fairley share of dirty players. Every program in the SEC, except Vandy, has had players that stretched the legal boundaries.

Well, I see that this thread stayed on topic for 20 pages.

I see you provided the link. thanks! but, there is nothing to indicate that the play was dirty. Surely you guys are not considering it dirty just because someone got injured? I mean...was the hit late? What made it a dirty play? I am not arguing, just curious why you considered it dirty?

The Knee Shot incident: Fairley was coming in low with his pass rush, and was getting pushed by the Georgia OL. Could he have pulled up? Don't believe so. How is a 300 pound beast a foot off the ground going to stop? Now if he was coming in high, and then went down low that would be an entirely different story.

This was from an earlier post by me. See? I'm not TOTALLY hard to get along with!

Dude, Brumbaugh's KNEE "collided" with Ward's helmet while Ward went low to block him.
I don't know how old you were in 1997, but I watched the game. Ward didn't accidentally hit Brumbaugh's knee on the block. He went straight for it.
I saw it and everybody else saw it too. OF COURSE they're not going to describe it that way in a newspaper article. The knee didn't blow out because it grazed Ward's helmet in passing. It blew out because the damn crown of Ward's helmet struck the knee flush on a block.
I guess Ward must have tripped on a piece of grass and it was all just a terrible misunderstanding.
(BTW, Ward was not being pushed into Brumbaugh's knee. He was diving into it intentionally.)
