Why? Just make sure the pass is not beyond the LOS.

What if the OL gets a good push and goes two yards up field? Penalty for being stronger than the defensive line? At least with three yards there was some leeway.

It's irrelevant. Linemen can sprint to the end zone as long as the screen pass is not beyond the LOS. There can't be an ineligible down field foul unless it's a forward pass BEYOND the LOS.

This, and the rest of the changes, are no big deal. The funny part is the "Redding Test" to determine whether the contrasting numbers on a jersey is legal.

quote:

1-4-4……...Jersey numeral colors must contrast with jersey color

What's the definition of contrast?

Here's the actual test:
The team submits a jersey to Redding for a ruling
Redding gives it to his wife to hold on a football field
He walks off 40 yds
She holds it up and if he can immediately read the number, it passes.
....true story
This is pretty close to the line

The only logic I can see behind this rule is that this is how fights and scrums can get started. People getting all pissed and offended when a guy from the other team pulls them off.

This will only hurt those whose coach's philosophy and strategy is centered around exploiting rules to their advantage.

I would rather them make a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for receivers that motion for a flag after every incomplete pass.

I have been saying this for years. The begging has gotten ridiculous.

I would like to see more flags for piling on. This last season there was a lot of piling on.

the synopsis of the rules i read said its not a penalty if the lineman is actively engaged with a defensive player, just cant be running free. if your lineman pancakes a guy past a yard its not a penalty

Heres what they really need to do, they need to authorize helmet radios for sideline communication, subsidize any team that cant afford the radios out of ncaa funds, and the require that all sideline communication flow through the QB on offense and mlb on defense, with the radios shutting down for the last 15 seconds of the clock. Force the players to actually have to know their plays and to have to make their own last second reads. The meerkat thing is bullshite and has gotten ridiculous. Would also cut down on the signal stealing incidents.

They also need to either fully adopt the NFL play clock management philosophy (where the ref controls the pace and only allows the play when all officials are in place) or go back to the old way with the 25 second clock

3. A 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct for players who pull or push opposing players off piles. Every single fumble pile up will now be covered in yellow confetti

Is this rule intended to encourage or prevent players giving opponents the business?

Installing a 10-second run-off on the game clock if a defensive player loses his helmet in the final minute of a half.

we gonna see an unusual amount of helmets flying off of defensive players heads in the final minute of the half if they gets voted in.

I could understand if it were directed towards the offense, but the defense make zero sense.

so now that 3 yard, ie, 10-15 yard becomes 1 yard, ie 5-10 yards
